Has anyone took a dual point distributor & coil & changed it all to a MSD system ? On my dads 67 GTX 440 he had a new distributor & coil. I changed it to a MSD distributor, coil, 6al box & wires. He had bought all new under the hood wiring. Now there is a blue wire that connected to the positive side of the coil. If I hook that blue wire back up the car will not start. If I take the blue wire off the car will start. According to the wire diagram the wire goes to the white porclin block on the fire wall. brain freeze I cant think of the name of it Do I need that wire ?

I don't have my instructions in front of me for the wiring, but I can tell you that if you mean by the white porcelain, the ballast resistor, that you bypass that for the MSD electronic ignition (double check but I am pretty sure on this and mine is bypassed with a jumper.

Depends on the MSD distributor I think. If its a ready to run then I do not think you need it. But you will have to make a loop wire from one side of the ballast resistor to the other side. I think its Brown and blue on one side and blue on the other side. You will not need the resistor any more.

Thanks guys. I will find a way to bypass the ballast resister. Now does that mean I no longer need the blue wire that was on the positive side of the coil from the factory wiring ?

Found this..

Guessing you mean to have just the blue wire connected it won't stay running? One of the brown or blue wires will be 'hot' in the key on position and the other hot in the crank position. Just do away with the ballast and connect them both to the power input.

What was the reason for the change ?

The engine was built no stock. I myself & my friends know more about the MSD. I know nothing about the points. I would think the way the engine was built it would need a hotter spark.
