Hi all,

I am looking to change the gears out in the charger instead of just buying an extra third member. I am curious besides the 3: 55 gears, what else do I need parts wise to order?

It's a 489 unit with clutch style sure grip.

thanks everyone! Happy fourth of July!

Mike

You need a very good machine shop familiar with Mopars & a gear swap kit from Dr. Differential.

If you are very advanced you might be able to do it yourself.... in which case you'll also need some "bluing compound" and a dial indictor/stand to set the gear lash. The instructions are in the factory service manual. I believe there's also a bearing behind the yoke on the pinion gear & you should replace the pinion seal for sure while you at it.

Unless you have a suitable press, suitable case holder, a bearing puller(s), dial indicator, pinion depth setup tool, companion flange wrench, spanner wrench, and required torque wrenches, you may just want to have it setup for you.

Here's Cass' link to setup...........
