Hey guys got the stroker all back together with new intake and pro systems carb. set the timing at 22* initial 36* total.

when I plant it in 3rd gear the valves rattle quite a bit, is this detontation or dropped lifters?

It sounds like detonation............I remember you wrestling with the cam timing. Have you done a compression test since you got it together?

yeh got timing sorted, car is running really nice and the exhaust sounds completely different to before, starts on a dime, idles nice.

i havent done a compression test as waiting on new gauge to turn up.

i spoke to a few aussie guys with mopar big blocks they reckon on our fuel that they like max 31-32 timing and a slightly heavier spring in the distributor.

my timing is moving around alot at idle. might try 18* initial and 32* total with a heavier spring in the dizzy see how it goes.

sound like a good idea?

Great to hear it's back on the road, I fought with my timing quite a bit as well and it seams happy at 36 degrees throughout the rpm range with it fully advanced almost immediately. If I dial it back on the initial it suffers, drops 6 lbs of vacuum, throttle response gets sluggish and it just doesn't run nearly as well. What I've learned is get everything as close as you can to the point where your confident in the combo and then get it dyno tuned.

You are always best off to run the max advance with less compression than to try and make too high compression work by retarding the timing. Max advance for a MoPar is around 36 - 38 degrees, so if that doesn't work then start looking at cranking pressure and CR; fuel distribution; fuel mixture; engine temp.

If you don't already have a Lambda-sensor I think it's well worth the money to get one.
