Long story short..... We purchased my Uncle’s GTX from his estate sale back in June of ‘17, the survivor that Barn Finds did a story on. Since than it has been out maybe a dozen times. Recently I have realized what a waste that it doesn’t belong to someone who would and could really enjoy it. Yes it has sentimental value but than again it’s just a car. With recent health concerns my wife and I have realized that life is short and we need to focus on different things. So why not let someone else enjoy it. So I’m asking where do I begin on selling it ? What’s it worth? ‘69 GTX 440, automatic, green on green 77k miles. 100% original except for diff, tires, battery, neg ground cable, it even has the original clear floor mats, trunk mat and spare tire. I posted about it back when we bought it. Thanks for your advice. Dave

I always consider hagerty.com and nadaguides.com to give me a first idea of what a car is worth.
e.g. https://www.hagerty.com/apps/valuationtools/1969-Plymouth-GTX?id=95862
In addition to that i look up auction results (ebay, mecum...) myself.
Hagerty is my favourite and proofed to be pretty accurate for me in the past.

BTW: Thats a heck of a nice looking GTX.
If i would be you then i would keep it.

Could use more pics. Engine bay, interior and undercarriage would be very helpful. Looks like a solid driver survivor. On the plus side? Functional air grabber hood. Numbers matching and original lower miles (Especially if documented) What (I believe) holds it back a bit is the auto trans and that particular green on green color combo. There are probably folks here a little tired of me using my '69 GTX as a comparison platform? But could give you some reference. I bought 2 1/2 years ago for 21k and change. It too is a solid driver quality car. But unlike your car? It is not numbers matching (In fact, not even close to fender tag. But period correct 440 and trans) It does not have the grabber hood. And has more miles (I turned odometer over this last summer) On the plus side? 4 speed with Dana rear. And a unique dark green/black trim with a camel tan interior. Color combo works better than I first imagined. Below is a quick walk around video. Along with some still pics. If I was selling today? I would be asking $29k for my GTX. What price it hammers? depends of course.

So what does that have to do with your request for value opinion? Just a reference. For me? Assuming your GTX was in very similar condition? I would ask $39k. If I was looking to buy? I would bid $29k. With the understanding the true value is likely somewhere in the middle. Again, this is just my opinion. One eager buyer can make that opinion moot. Please feel free to add new information/pics. And convey your thoughts and opinion. In the end? Only yours and the buyer matter.

Beautiful car. Good luck with the sale and your health issues...

I'd start at $50k-$60 maybe,
see if you have any feelers/interest

some people will not like the triple green too
personally, I really like green cars,
not necessarily triple green

(maybe more if it's really optioned well, if it had A/C,
power windows &/or especially a 4 speed & Dana-60, I'd start higher
)

be a good price for both buyer & seller

(I know someone will say; "that way too cheap for a 77k mile survivor"
& the other side, the cheapfucks will say; "way too much"
)

don't pay attention to auction prices,
usually, way overpriced, bring like 20% more
detailed to the tees, present well & they also have a captive audience
that are all prequalified & there to buy, not as many tire kickers
lookylous

Thank you for the response. I will get more pics soon. I am 100% sure this is a survivor except for the rearend. I’ve got a copy of the window sticker and the original build sheet. I even have some receipts for when he had it serviced at the local garage, they charged him $1.00 for a “test drive “. I’ll recheck but I think is was less than $10 for a complete serve back in 1970. Thanks again

Do your homework and see what other GTX'S sold for in similar condition. It is a nice car and commands a good price. Ask top dollar. You can always come down.

WOW. Look at that paperwork. I didnt even know that kicking down the fast idle was the normal thing to do...

I thought I'd been in every small town in Kansas being in the oil business but I don't think I've been to Linn. Cool car. Here's what Hagerty says: Pay note to that last line. Unfornutelay values are trending downward on these.

current Values
  • #1 Concours$80,600
  • #2 Excellent$55,600
  • #3 Good$37,300
#3 vehicles could possess some, but not all of the issues of a #4 vehicle, but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new, correct interior where applicable. #3 vehicles drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. These vehicles are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses, and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws. "Good" is the one word description of a #3 vehicle.
  • #4 Fair$23,600
Value Adjustments
+10% for 4-spd. Colors can make an astonishing difference in both value and salability.

Let me know what you decide to do.

It’s for sure for sale for a fair price. I would hope being a survivor would help the price.

Having owned 5 GTXs over the last 43 years, and sold four, my actual experience reflects the opinion quoted. The guides are just that, but Hagerty seems to be a good starting point. I've bought cars for full book, and for considerably less, depending on personal factors, and had the same experience selling them. I have owned a '68 survivor GTX for 15 years (bought it back in the day, sold it, have it again 30 years later), and have never been offered anything close to book value on it (to me it's worth way more). On the other hand, my red,

rotisserie restored, 4 speed, Dana '69 gets offers at book value on a fairly regular basis. I agree with those who said to price high. You have a really nice car. You can always come down.

Finally got around to getting more pics. The one pic is the backside of a salesman’s card when he was thinking about trading.

Looks like a nice car and worth some good money. You know, everything you post here will need to be posted again when you start your sale thread. I think if it were me I would start at $50,000 and reduce from there.
