Hey guys thanks a million for the BDay wishes! I haven’t been on the site much this year - Thought you all would let me slip by with one - A big one!
My wife’s cancer returned in late December and we’ve been dealing with that mostly. It’s been a rough road. It was determined this time a full stem cell transplant would be the best protocol. Really a though gig but the way to deal with this. She was a couple of months shy of her 5 year mark from last time. The insurance co turned us down at the only hospital in close proximity to us that can pull that off. It happens to be her employer Univ of CA in the OC. A highly respected facility but theyre fairly new in the stem cell transplant area. After more than a few challenging discussions they provided options that were typically out of network for us but the best of the best out here. UCLA, USC and our Oncologist is a heavy weight in the UC system - she forced the issue to Cedars Sinai. We picked Cedars Sinai in Beverley Hills. They’ve been doing said protocol for 30 yrs and many thousands of times with a strong track record of success. I won’t bore you any more with the gauntlet but her first full m
week there was triple doses of powerful chemo twice a day for a week then the transplant process began following that. They brought her immune system down to 0.00. In isolation with less immunity than a new born baby. We’re in the build back phase now. She’ll need an incredible number of vaccines and additional boosters to those vaccines W/process lasting another 1.5 yrs from this point. The good news is she’s steadily getting stronger and getting to the point where her system will hopefully accept all that’s still to come. She has enormous and undaunted faith - I worry much more than she does. That”s the short story and likely far more than you wanted to hear. But talking about it helps calm the soul.
I hope all you boys are doing well and sorry for the long absence. Most of all many thanks for the Bday wishes. It now may be that time where it‘s .best to start counting backwards…..
