So.....years ago somebody put a spring relocation kit on my 67 Satellite and when they did the gas tank must not have cooperated because they beat the living snot out of the corners to keep it from rubbing, well...they must not have known or didnt give a **** that they cracked the gas tank. I keep patching it and it keeps leaking, might go a week or two between leaking and this is getting old! So my question is...I dont want to put a fuel cell in it so what tank can I put in it to keep it away from the springs so i dont have to beat the snot out of it and keep the cycle going?

just a suggestion dont know if it will work for you...there is a epoxy or something like that, that you put in the tank and swish it around a seal the tank from the inside.worked on a friend car and been that way for about 15 year. dont now were to get it but if ya look for it it can be found.ill call my buddy this week end and ask him were he got it

I think Eastwood has something that seals gas tanks. I have never used it or know anyone who has, but it might be worth checking out. Good luck...a leaky tank is bothersome and dangerous.

I was kinda looking for a tank that would fit up there and stay away from the springs. I had the tank welded and its holding for now but it rubs the spring when I hit bumps.

Had the same problem...There,s not alot of room under there with exhaust and all that...Sorry to say but the best way to go is a fuel cell...I know thats not what you wanted to here..

I would rather move the springs back out than put a fuel cell in it. I may try to make a tank.

Thats a good idea...Weld one up that,ll fit the space you have...Mig weld up an aluminum tank to fit the space...Then you can sell them to guys like ME!!!!

Could you cut and section a few inches off each side of the existing tank? If you attempt this, BE CAREFUL CUTTING AND WELDING! Clean the tank thoroughly before starting and keep fresh air flowing.

I'm in the process of swapping the tank out of mine. I cut the spare tire tub out of the trunk, welded a sheet over it. I picked up a 22 gal jaz fuel cell which will be mounted underneath, with filler neck bolted on through the trunk floor. Cut the filler tube in the trunk and run a hose from there to your trunk mounted filler neck. Put some straps on it and run the lines.

I'll put some pics up when I'm done

If you're going to the trouble of fabbing an alum tank- way better off to tig weld. Much better heat control and weld integrity, and less spatter than mig. JMHO

Yes I would tig weld it and as far as somebody saying to keep fresh air moving while you cut and weld on a tank......well you actually dont want fresh air you want carbon dioxide in it. Gas fumes cant burn without oxygen so you have to take all the oxygen out of it before you can do any of that or............BOOM! and you dont want that.

Yeah, CO2 would be better, but if you keep the fuel vapors below the LEL (lower explosive limit), meaning there isn't enough oxygen available to support combustion, you should be OK.
