Hemmings Classic Car and Muscle Machines to be the latest magazine to fold

I subscribe but haven’t got an issue this month yet. This guy says he got a letter with his latest issue saying they are ceasing publication. First Muscle Car Review, then Mopar Muscle, Mopar Action, now Classic Car. Hemmings Muscle probably not long for this world.

I came to enjoy Hemmings Classic Cars more than Hemmings Muscle.
They featured cars I didn’t know about or knew little about.
They had good articles on cars detailing their restorations sometimes going for several months.
Their columnists were really good.
Hemmings Muscle has got sort of mediocre. Mostly resto mod type cars features. Auction results, etc. I generally don’t spend more than 1/2 hour reading an issue of it.
If those 2 magazines fold, that’s it for my car magazine subscriptions. Go back 5 or 6 years, I subscribed to over a dozen car mags. Now all either gone or going away.

Yes it is a shame that they are going by the wayside. Dinosaurs like myself will probably have to burn different car magazines in the fire pit over a drink.
Some go back to the 50’s. Still hanging in though.

I still enjoy Hemmings Muscle but it's gotten repetitive. Oh wow, the umpteenth 67 GTO Restomod by Bob Smith and Joe Blow.

Hemmings hasn't been the same since the big publishing company bought it when the owner Terry died years ago. The last time I went to the filling station store it was closed, I'm not sure if their museum under their office is open anymore either.

The old owner used to cater to the car hobby, always held an open house during the Bennington Car Show etc.

Now Hemmings Motor News and Muscle Machines cater to the high dollar pristine cars and feel the need to put a lot of auction coverage in both magazines.

The pages of Hemmings Motor News are getting less and less so I sure it's only a matter of time for that one too.

I just looked at their website and didn't find anything on what is going on with Hemmings Classic Car. However, I didn't find any information listed on subscribing to either Classic Car or Hemmings Muscle. I take that to mean they are phasing out both of those publications, and then only Hemmings Motor News will be left.

Wayyy back in the day, I got Popular Hot Rodding...but I honestly can't remember the last time I picked up an actual physical magazine. I do all my reading online.

One of my stops at the SEMA show was the booth for "Modern Rodding". I needed to re-up my subscription plus wanted to talk about some of the metal work articles they've been doing, awesome stuff, plus inquire about doing a Mopar publication. These people are former Motor Trend employees who got the boot when the upper echelon decided to do what they did. Brian Brennan is the editor for Modern Rodding and he plus others are doing a far better job writing bitchin articles than when they were with MT. Maybe less hamstrung? Anyway, one of the guys at the booth, Brian was out and about, used to work for "Mopar Muscle" [Mopar Muscle Atrophy to me as they sucked once the competition was bought out] and said he would talk to the chiefs about that. Plus he suggested I email Brian about that and the article input I was inquiring about. If they do one, judging by the current Modern Rodding, it's going to be awesome. Anyone up for emailing inquiries? Here you go [email protected]. Lets start flooding them with requests!

I assume they are ceasing publication because everything is online now, and its easier and cheaper than making and printing a magazine. This is what my tractor magazine said, they said that the costs are getting expensive to do it. I used to get the muscle machines magazines but I haven’t in a long time… long time meaning about 10 years or so. I liked em, but I’m guilty of not resubscribing. My stepdad said he gets Hemmings and his latest issue did not come with with a letter

Hemmings Motor News is still remaining in print. It's Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Muscle Machines that are folding early next year.
I give them some credit compared to the publisher of Mopar Action. Hemmings hasn't been taking renewals or selling new subscriptions to those 2 publications for a few months in preparation for shutting them down, and apparently if someone still has time left on their subscriptions when they cease, they'll send Hemmings Motor News for the remainder of the subscription of the other mags.
I got stiffed out of 2 or 3 issues I still had remaining on my Mopar Action subscription when they killed that magazine late last year. I don't think the publisher Althlon went bankrupt, so you'd think they'd be legally bound to refund subscribers for the time remaining on their subscriptions. They were still sending out mailings to resubscribe and to give gift subscriptions to your friends up to right before they announced Mopar Action was being discontinued!

I haven't had a Rag (magazine) subscription for about 12-ish years now
I donated 2) 6' high stacks of old mags., ones I liked, didn't keep them all
you name it, I had it, maybe 35+ years, 4x4 muscle cars, hot rods,
Super Stock, Drag Racing, Mopar's Pontiac's Old's Chevys even some British sportscars
to a local teen/kid interested in cars
his dad came by & thanked me too, told me he was crazy about older muscle cars

I'm glad someone can appreciate them still

I told him if he sells them I get a percentage, he said OK
I was sort of kidding, we'll see

a lot of them were so repetitive now, it isn't worth having
sad really, like no real journalism anymore, just profits

it is the times, digital is taking over
& costs & taxes killing most legacy businesses,
especially in 12 of the past 16 years
