Can anyone Pease tell my how I can remove oil from interior carpet as my oil line decided to crap out and break at the gauge under my dash (of course). Lost approx. 2 qts that pumped it self all over carpeting and under dash area.

Some times it feels like IF IT WEREN'T FOR BAD LUCK I HAVE NO LUCK AT ALL !!!!!!

Thanks ......

My that really sucks. I can imagine the mess. The only way I can imagine is to fill up a horse trough with Dawn and warm water and soak it for a few days, hang change water and repeat. Maybe Tide might be better.

Could try some oil absorber to soak up the big mess. May have to take the carpet out and replace it. Don't know if pressure washing will help(after you take it out). What kind of line was it, copper or plastic?

that happened to me years ago in a 71 Road Runner...but my gauge was on the dash..by the time I figured out what happened it was a mess......Dawn dish soap worked the beast....still was never the same though.

Dawn is great stuff on oil... never tried it on carpet, scrub the hell out of it, then after its "really diluted" than maybe shop-vac the excess & repeat... sorry to hear about Exxon Valdese Oil spill in your car...

Plan on taking the carpet out, then try things like Dawn or pressure washing. But start out with the less aggressive attempts first and work your way up. No sense in damaging the carpet if you don't need to.

Sorry to hear about the mess. Would agree with the other posters...remove the carpet before attempting to clean. I would wonder if replacing carpet wouldn't be a better option. Maybe this is why Ma Mopar used electrical oil pressure sening units? Good luck on the cleanup.

I am a bit confused here? How did oil get to the gauge inside the vehicle. Aren't most gauges of the electrical kind that work off of a sender? I have never heard of a gauge that worked directly with the oil system utilizing actual Oil to get readings. For quantity yes but for pressure no. Then I am maybe way behind on this kind of thing????

Might be a little behind cr8crshr........Majority of "aftermarket" oil pressure gauges work off oil coming into the gauge. They do have electrical driven oil pressure gauges out there. More pricey, but then again, cheaper than destroyed carpet and loosing 2 quarts of oil from a running engine.

Mechanical gauge has an oil line that runs into the back of the gauge. I even had one with the oil line made out of clear plastic once, you could see the oil make its way up to the gauge - probably not a great idea. The one I have now has a metal line.

Most common, old style, mechanical oil pressure gauges work through a small diameter nylon line that is tapped into the pressurized oil galley at the rear of most V-8 blocks. Most times the pressure switch that operates the idiot light is removed and the pressure line to the gauge is connected in its place. When the engine is running the line is pressurized by the oil pump, so if something happens to the line under the dash (cut line, bad fitting or whatever) then you get hot oil inside the car on the carpets. Not too good.

pull the carpet and cover in oil adsorb with bricks on top for a day or two.then vacuum out that stuff.then put tide detergent on it and repeat same steps.as long as you have quality carpet it should wash clean in the end.if it is badly soaked, try oil absorb under and over at first with bricks for pressure.detailer taught me that trick, works good.

I don't think you'll ever be able to get it out completely, but at least new carpeting is fairly inexpensive. Since it's got to come out, anyway, you might as well just order up a new one.

how bad did it get, and sometimes it can be cleaned up
