After a diagnosis of cancer last winter and giving him only a month to live, we finally had to put Buddy down this morning nearly a year later.
In the end it wasn't even the cancer that took him. He just couldn't walk anymore. I've been carrying him up and down the stairs 4-5 times a day for the last 3 months, but he was still able to "walk."
Yesterday he wasn't able to get up at all on his own. I was able to pick him up but he couldn't even stand on his own.
He was uncomfortable and didn't sleep all night.
We finally had to make the decision this morning.
The last picture was taken this morning.
I think they both knew.
Rest easy Buddy!

Sorry to hear. Sometimes the hard thing to do is the right decision. Hang in there.

Toughest decision that a pet owner has to make, but that's when it's time to be the "responsible" pet owner and not let them suffer anymore . . . they provide us years of enjoyment and the last thing that we need to do is try and prolong their stay here . . .

I know it's a tough decision as I've had to do it myself . . .

RIP Buddy . . . I'm sure that he will be missed . . . My thoughts and prayer to you and your family for your loss . . .

I'm sorry bobtile. He was a good boy & is in puppy-dog Heaven now......all the chew bones you want & no cats at all.

I'm so very sorry. There is such a special bond between a dog and a loving owner that when it's broken there's emptiness that takes a long time to heal.

Sorry man, been there. It is not easy to do the hard stuff. You did the hard stuff. It was not easy.

My condolences Bob, feel comfort in knowing you did the best thing for Buddy as he is no longer suffering.

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like he had a good life with lotsa love.
