What would you think would be an average turnaround for machining an block? Pretty much square the deck and line bore and cylinder bore and hone with torque plates. Balance rotating
assembly install cam bearings and assemble the short block. This is very good Mopar only shop.

7-10 days unless there is a problem. If longer they should be contacting you, not you contacting them. Just good business IMO.

8-12 weeks depending on how busy they are and how much help they have. 440'

Well it’s a father and son running the business they have had my block since 12-11-19. I have called a few times been there a couple times and just keep being told they are working on customers that were in front of me. But then I hear where someone takes in a block for boring and honing with torque plates and get it back in 4 weeks. I’m patient but dang! I was told 8 weeks

Dropped off my ultra filthy 413 for boring, new cam bearings, and deck trim in early January, picked it up 3 weeks later, could have had it in two if I asked. Been running since late February.

Find someone who wants the work and bring it there. These guys don’t want it.

I paid them the money to buy the stroker parts the next day after dropping it off. Have the receipt to remind me how long it’s been.

Iwould remind them that you have bought the kit n tell them to put you at the top of the list n that your waiting on them to finish your build, thats a way to long

do they do all the work there or source some of it out

They do it all and do it very well one of the best in the country but jeez 8 months!
I seen a post they put on Facebook a couple days ago of a deck job on an RB
I told the wife I’m going there tomorrow and it better be mine or I’m gonna hit the roof. I’m a reasonably patient Man but if I’d had been told 8 months up front instead of 8 weeks you can bet your *** I would have went elsewhere.

thats to long something not rite, i would meet in person n try n get something done

For me, and I mean it is only me, that job could take me about 2 months. I have a LOT of work, and I work on everyones stuff to get it thru sooner. For just doing the block, 8-9 months does sound long, but is does depend on how busy they are. Hell, I have even had some engines take over a year to complete. Did you make the ultimate customer mistake when you dropped it off and told them "No hurry"? Give them a call, and check on it. Let them know your timeline has changed, and if the could get it out sooner. Diplomacy goes a long way here.

Ask Jim K. and Bart. I did both of theirs, and on the third for Jim, and they know it will take a while. I am the janitor, operator, office lady, customer support liaison, parts manager, financial officer, CEO, equipment repair and maintenance officer, collections department, and much more. All of this before I am the cleaning department, machinist, and assembly specialist. I arrive early, leave late, and barely get to eat lunch.

Anyway, there are many reasons why it takes longer when only one person (or 2) runs the business, but at the end of the day, communication with the customer is key. I love what I do, and I get to bring my dogs to work with me; I wouldn't trade this for any other job...

Yes I told him about 6 months ago the car was done and I was ready and waiting on the engine for it. I will find out why it’s not done or isn’t being worked on when I get there tomorrow. If I don’t change my mind I’m gonna get my money back and bring the block home and slap the 426 hemi in it and forget about it.

I know you’re bummed for good cause. I had mine in for a complete rebuild - took 2 years. And I was calling pretty regularly. I didn’t live in the state at the time so they had me over a barrel. No money upfront tho. But wow talk about jail!

To be fair on the long wait times others are posting about, I do call and get an appointment date. I have had to wait as much as a month before bringing the job in.

Something isn't right. 8 months? I'd go get it and find another machine shop.

Way too long, hopefully nothing's gotten scrapped in the machining process yet. Communicate with them, explain your frustration and find a resolution.

Last machine shop I used play favorites to his steady race car clientele
Took 4 months to get a line bore, deck honed and rods cut

I remember a time about 30 years ago, a friend dropped off the original block from a '68 Charger R/T for machine work. Typical "this guy is the best, but he's quirky and slow" nonsense. Same deal, waited forever. End of story, they lost / someone stole the freaking block. This stuff isn't rocket science. Sure there are better and worse places but "the best" is a crock, I get wild stuff done to microns all the time, and plenty of places can do it. If they can't run a business why would you trust them with a your block?
