Hey everyone
What is the difference between a column shift automatic and a Manuel steering column (lets go with both being power steering for no confusion)
I am aware of the auto having the gear selector lever at the top but is there any other differences?
Is it possible to swap the auto housing to a Manuel one? Etc
Thank you

You are correct gear indicator and shifter on column shift. 70 is diff that 68-9 due to the key location. The primary and possibly only diff is the collar so you can switch that if you have a donor or change the whole column

Wouldn't only pertain to non console cars?

I think I know what you are asking and IF you are working on a 69 and older column I have gone from Auto to Floor shift using the same column. Disassemble the column removing all parts pertaining to the shifter and shift tube etc. The pot metal collar, remove the PRND21 indicator and cut the handle attaching point off flush.(air hacksaw works great)Make a small aluminum plate to cover the holes from the inside and glue inplace with JB Weld.Smooth the JB Weld flush filling the hole smooth with the outside of the collar. After dry sand paint and reassemble. Now you have a shiftless column. It can be done to 70-up but alot more work.
Disreguard above if I didn't understand the Question.............
