Might be getting back one of my old cars...

Wow! Great! I hope you get it. If it’s in alberta and near me and you’d like me to look at/verify anything on it for you I would no problem.

Good luck, don’t hesitate to get back- even though it’s probably a few more bucks than when you sold it!

I got mine back from 1994 in 2017

Back in the day were you driving by touch, or couldn’t get out of the way?

Share some pics when you get her home! Congrats! I’d give a bunch to get my dads old 70 RT charger back! Your a lucky guy!

Great story...bought mine in 1983, sold it in 1991, got it back in 2013. Friends for life with the guy I bought it from in '83, made some new ones along the way with the second time around, sold her again last fall to the current caretaker, who loved her as much as I did. Circles like yours are the high point of our hobby.

Haha, no doubt. My uncle bought that car brand new, and let’s just say he used to enjoy beer and such. Last call in the city meant - let’s fire up the runner and take it to Turner Valley cause that’s where we can still get off sales at this hour…. :)
I didn’t put any of those dents on the car. Fairly rust free car back then, just dented a lot!

Congrats, I hope you've sealed the deal. I got my old race car back after 16 years gone and it's a great feeling. Working on getting it back in shape for some street and NSS duty.

Would appreciate some advice.

While taking to the guy he mentioned that he would like to have payment in cold hard cash! Now I have done the math on going to get the car myself and there is no way I could do the trip for less then having it transported. So not sure how to pay in cash other then to fly in pay for the car then fly home...but since he's the one who wants cash, not a bank to bank transfer or other secure payment method, I feel it would not be unreasonable to ask him to flip the bill for a round trip plane ticket.

I will be talking to him in the next day or so about this so perhaps he'll have a sugegstion or we can come to some other arrangement.

personally, I wouldn't let the $$ go without laying eyes on the car in person. A plane ticket is cheap insurance. Pictures don't show everything. 22 years is a long time!

Since I assume it's a fair amount of cash, I'd be eyes/hands on.
Wouldn't the trip back be a great way to start new memories?
Or is it like 2000mi away? If so, work the price of the sight seeing trip out of the deal as you say. Wiring money, especially a chunk line this, escrow, there are options safe for both, if he needs cash he can subsidize.

This is sounding like something is not above board on the sellers end. Caution as you get in deeper because you do not want to be drug into whatever he may need this cash for. Would not want to get invited to some legal issues simply because you gave him a good amount of cash money.
Sounds like he may be luring you with the car hoping you will not think too much and only focus on the car. Just smells really strange.

True...I've paid several hundred to have cars inspected before, not much more to fly in and check the car out in person.

If it is somewhere in Canada where time doesn’t change, I mean a very large area, it can be viewed for you. You can pm me if you want to.

Thank you, I appreciate the offer...it is within Canada, but out East at least a couple time changes...;)

Hmm: Right away the guy is trying to hide assets. Radar up.
Only way to do things in Canada... as you are required to claim capital gains on a vehicle sale for any amount above the original "claimed" cost the government has on record (when it was registered) + any repair/restoration costs. Buyers and sellers just have to keep track of the "lies" to stay out of trouble and make sure trackable bank transaction match the "claims". It's a vicious game.. especially with aircraft. This is what has kept me from selling my Superbird for many years, the capital gain tax I'd get nailed for and so glad that I now have an entire file for a "mopar restoration" to cover that value gap if I decide to do so!

I would not let that stop me... In life you rarely get a second chance. Trust your gut.

No capital gains on vehicles. He's getting a divorce or he owes the govt. money.
