So it's time to vent..... The car has been about 90% together and I have been shaking it down since Carlisle around mid July. I've been plagued by Oil and Transmission leaks for over a month and its really starting to piss me off. First the Hydro Boost lines were blowing off every time I pulled the car out the driveway. The line would pop, spray power steering fluid everywhere, I'd clean it all up wipe the whole engine bay down, fix the leak and wham, blow another line! I played this game about 4 times before I Finally figured out I had to grind down the areoquipe fitting to clamp the hoses tighter (for whatever reasons) and I got it stop, Each time pumping two or more quarts of fluid all over the engine bay and driveway even got down inside the frame and I'm still wiping off drips weeks later.
Then there was my idea to install a Moroso Vacuum pump. Did all sorts of work to try and make this work, From the custom rad shroud to the mandrel drive Gilmer belt and custom brackets it looked really good, but no matter what I did it just pulled quarts of oil out the engine, again all over the engine bay, down the radiator support and into the frame rail. I was trying to pull from the valley plate and made two different style baffles to stop the oil but no matter what I did it just wouldn't stop sucking oil. I eventually abandoned it all together but what a waste. The pump is still there but pulled the belt and routed the hose from the valley plate directly to the catch can/separator.
And the current winner of the "I'm going to burn this car where it sits" award goes to my freshly built 727 built by Proformance transmission in Newark Delaware.....68 case, 727, A&A RMVB, Rollerized, Billet Steel Drum, 4 pinion billet planetary, Bolt in Sprag, 2.77 Low gear set, Derale Pan, Custom 9 1/2" 5000 flash dynamic converter by Frank Lupo, Also a gear vendors overdrive, and Derale remote mount fan cooler over the axle, So it's safe to say I got a few bucks into this trans.....
Started out good, Converter is really good flashes to 5k but cruises around 2300, Low gear set is scary fast out the hole, and I even called Sean to tell him how happy I was with his trans. Well I should have kept my mouth shut cause I think I jinxed myself. About a week or so of seat time and I noticed some fluid under the car and realized it was trans fluid. I called Sean and he thought it was comming out the vent and stated he did not relocate it due to the gear Venders unit. He also thought I should either lower the level in the pan or let it find its own level, So I waited a bit and drove the car some to see if it would dissipate. A few more days and grew tired of waiting so I manually pulled a quart and tried it, but now the fluid level was so low it couldn't even get out the garage. I added back in a quart and a half and it moved again. The car was getting dialed in and so I started making some full throttle passes, but when I went for 3rd gear it was like I was hitting neutral. Not a good thing to do at 6800 rpm and close to 700hp. Its violent hitting neutral at those rpms. On the advice of sean I tried adjusting the gear selector and adjusting the 2-3 band but no change. So this past weekend I pulled the trans and I'm going to take it back to the trans shop and let them go back through it. Not really happy with that but what else could I do. Meanwhile as I'm pulling the trans I realized I've basically destoyed a set TTI headers with the oil spray and coated the entire bottom of my car. Oh and yes this was a rotisserie car so the undercarriage was spotless...WTF
