need help! 1969 gtx 440 alternator mounting

hi, I am mounting a alternator on a 69 gtx 440..ac car... the top bolt hole on the right side head has a plug instead of a threaded hole? any idea what this is like that? what's my options to mount a stock alternator? any input would be helpful.

What you probably have is a bolt sheared off in the head.. Weld a nut to the broken bolt & unscrew it...

If the hole is deep enough, you can tap it for a thread repair insert (forgot what it is called).
 
If all else fails, as last resort, one could swap heads side to side.
 
That is weird, definitely looks like a plug. Maybe try to remove it and see what you have.
You could swap heads as suggested, obviously first check that it not also plugged.
 
Yeah looks like some kind of plug, even has a number stamped if you zoom in on it. If you're lucky the plug threaded in there. I'd remove the paint around the hole to get a better look at what you are working with.

Worst case, as others have said, see if you can swap the heads around.

Doesn’t the a/c cars have a head bracket and then the alternator mounts to that I thought?

thx for the help... I have come to the conclusion that I need to switch my heads around.... gonna be great fun on my every nut and bolt....all painted.. restoration

From all pics I have seen, weather it's an AC car or not, ya need that top threaded hole to mount the alternator. Never seen a plug put in one before. Whoever did the heads has some 'splainin' to do.

Thanks Don, it looks like one of those small dish plugs. I'd try tapping on the side with a small punch and tilting it , and pry out..

no has a bracket off water pump and top pivot bolt goes onto the head ...I think I am going to switch my heads around... ugh!
I remember that on non A/C cars but one head had an adapter I thought with A/C

That bracket is for B blocks only, it won't fit on an RB block. The bolt is lines up to thread into the cylinder head on an RB block.

The alternator bracket is the same for both blocks on AC, on non AC the alt bracket has two holes for the alt bolt, B or RB block.
