new trans leaking..

I called the people I got the trans from and told them I could fix it. If they send me the parts. But apparently they wont warranty it if I open it up. So its going back to them. At their cost. They should be picking it up tomorrow. On another note I may pull the old trans apart and try and figure out what happened to it. When it was in reverse it felt like the brakes were stuck and would barely go. But before that when I put it into reverse i heard a ping as if something hit the pan from inside. So I dont know what could have let go inside to cause it to do that.
 
Beep that would be good training & no pressure to get done; win-win.
 
Transmission left yesterday and is on its way back to AZ to be repaired. I just built a new work bench in my shed for the old trans to be torn down on. Might be a week or so before I can get into that.
 
They called me today apparently the pump itself had a hairline crack at the bottom that went front to back across the o-ring gap. They have rebuilt the trans dynoed it again and replaced that pump. They are also sending me 2 cases of Lucas Sure Shift and some Hughes Swag. He did ask that I remove that video. He said We are very sorry this happened and we stand behind our products. The guys name is Pete over at Hughes Performance. Great guy to deal with and overall excellent experience discounting that I had to remove it 3 times. Other than that. I'm giving them props.

On the actual transmission before the leak. The trans shifted great and even barked a second. The old one wouldn't do that. So I cant knock the build quality seemed to be a great transmission before the leak.

Good thing you didn't try to fix it.
 
Sounds like they are doing you right. That pump is a separate component that they probably receive from a rebuilder and have to consider it's good-to-go - you can't do everyone else's quality control for them. It's a shame you had to go through all that trouble but it sometimes just happens.
 
Yea Pete over there is a cool dude.. Seems like all is going to go well. Hopefully The bird will fly again next week.
 
Sounds like good customer service....I thought I'd read that they could be a pain to deal with, but that was hughes engines..they are two different shops..glad they took care of ya!
 
Well they shipped the trans back included 2 cases of Lucas Sure Shift and a T-shirt. The company they shipped with was horrible.. But thats not them. Estes had the trans at their dock 20 minutes away from Tuesday till yesterday I decided to just go pick it up instead of waiting on them to get around to delivering it. Which would have been today Anyhow I put it in yesterday and finished up the bits and bobs this morning. Had a small leak but that was my fault I didn't tighten the front trans line. But its good now. Chirps a second and the bird flys again.

While the engine and trans were out of the car I gave the engine a new coat of paint. Also installed the firm feel stage 2 box and swapped out the steering column. The car drives muuuuuch better now. Also bled the brakes. Had a small leak at front right wheel.
