Just a heads up... I got an E-mail supposedly from Fed-Ex about they couldn't deliver a package to the house on the 27th of March, so I opened it, clicked on where it said to copy the delivery invoice & kabam it's a damn virus, then immediately after some damn unauthorized company AVASoft Professional Antivirus Protection, locked up my new computer & I already have virus protection, that caught it albeit a little damn late, from another software company, so I notified both my virus protection company, Microsoft & Fed-Ex about the damn scam, using their name & trying to sell virus protection, by putting a virus/trojan-worm into my computer, so you have to buy some damn $99 virus protection... I didn't I wasn't born yesterday...LOL... I only open E-mail that I think is legit & was trying to because I get things delivered from time to time & my Pops had just ordered something after getting his 1st Hole in One in Golf... so I figured it was on the up & up, we were expecting a delivery... it was from Fed-Ex of all people... but it's not beware it's out there people...

So you Actually opened one of those? Huh?
If it walks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck.... It's a Duck!

Sorry, but you were born yesterday! lol :laughing1:
Always right click links before opening and check if the link matches the name of the link given.
Example: link looks like "FED-EX Delivery" but if you right click and look at the "property's" it will show the true destination of the link or "copy link location" and paste that link to somewhere you can see it like a notebook page and again you will see the true link destination.

Trust me, I know, live and learn.

If you have an Apple you're screwed! lol

Yeah I know I'm a dumb *** when it comes to computers, sometimes, I know better & trusted someone, I certainly shouldn't have... Se lave'

Yeah, I got a couple emails from somebody that said they were an older lady and she was sending most of her money to people that were having a hard time with this economy. She had mentioned something about contacting Fed-Ex and mentioning some guys name. she also said that she would pay all fees except for some processing fee($180). The letter also said that once I did that I would start receiving $5000 every week till the total had reached. The amount was something like 5,700,000 in whatever currency was for Britain. I never opened it and deleted it. Knew it wasn't anything I need to worry about.

This was nothing like that at all, I'm dumb in some peoples eyes maybe, but I'm not that damn dumb, it was just a Fed Ex message, very legit looking too, about a package delivery not being left, we weren't home, it had to be signed for, typical with deliveries up here... then that I should contact Fed Ex to claim the undelivered package, click on some stupid tab that directed me to a receipt to claim my package or reschedule for delivery... no money mentioned at all, I'm not that damn stupid, to ever believe that dumb chit... I "usually" have a good radar for these damn scams & don't fall for any, until this stupid one... It looked very legit about a package delivery, I have actually got very similar e-mails, I have a Fed Ex account & an UPS account for many years & get E-mails about deliveries all the time.... It's not one of them lame Nigerian BS junk mail or others that are floating around in everyone's spam folder for eons now... This was on a legit looking with a real Fed Ex logo, contact names etc., not some prince or other bulshit we all know & get... I just wanted to warn all you guys, especially the guys who aren't computer literate as others, don't be as stupid as I was, not everyone on here is a computer savvy or a damn know it all computer guru, that plays with computers every day day in day out for 20 years or is an IT guy... I hope all is well otherwise...

Just so everyone knows...
All of the package delivery companies do not include attachments with their email notifications. Their notifications are only to let you know that the item has been shipped or was delivered. They do not send emails saying that they could not deliver. They leave a post-it on your door with the package information and the next time they will try to deliver.

I used to manage a UPS retail store and have been in the computer repair business for the last 40 years. I have seen this gotcha several times. If you were able to get it off easily, then you were lucky. I had one client that had a business computer that required about 6 hours to get rid of one of the early UPS virus. Now it is mostly malware wanting you to buy their software, that doesn't work, unless you spend even more money!

The originator of that scam was 17, living in Russia and is now a multi millionaire after selling the how-to to the thieves!!

Budnicks, .. PM me if you need help getting rid of the problem..

BUDNICKS, no way was I calling you dumb, would never say that to anybody. These scams come in all shapes/sizes. I'm not that computer smart myself. I thought my intelligent level went up when I could get on here and upload photo's without my wife helping me. I have accidently open some of those emails and got a virus on my old computer hard drive so bad that not even the tech expert in town could remove it.

Budnicks "was not born yesterday"
Holy Crap, the Fed Gvt gets "hacked" daily...
He just fell victim.

I got some malware like that just by going to some site.....it's not always through an email. And no, it wasn't a **** site! :D

Yeah Cranky, we have to be pretty proactive/vigilant now days, to stay away from all these stupid malware & virus crap that's out there now, so many freaken' lower than pond scum, 'puter scammen' dirt bags, trying to get away with so much...

I received the very same e-mail a couple months ago but it was from UPS, I have alot of things shipped to the shop from them so I opened it,same thing, locked my computer up tighter than a drum,I had to get an IT guy to come and fix it.then I got alot of weird responses from apparent e-mails that were sent out along with alot of mailer demons, changed my password and it stopped

Yup,
As Cranky stated....
It's called MALWARE.
A form of social engineering.
In this category: Phishing.
And, again, very cleverly designed as a Fed Ex "Query"

Quick tip - if there is a link in an email, hover over it. Dont click it. When you hover your mouse over it, you should be shown the URL it will take you to. If you get an email from "FedEx" but the link doesnt say FEDEX.com -- then you know its spammer trying something hinkey

That's a great suggestion, Joeychgo. I, personally, make it a point to NEVER open anything like that, even if it appears to come from someone I know. My friends and acquaintances know that if I get a link, doc, zip file, whatever as an attachment, without their telling me in an earlier email that it is coming, that I WILL delete it without question.

What makes it tough is when you ARE expecting a package from, say, FEDEX, then you are more apt to click the link without checking first. I had to fix a computer last month because of that exact thing happened. The lady was expecting a package and thought it was related it her delivery. 'it happens, to many people, don't feel like you're the lone ranger.
