NFL Is Here!!! Let The Smack Commence!

Demsey also had a wooden leg. The kick on Sunday was in 15* weather too.

he had a "club foot" amputated just after his toes, not a wooden leg...LOL... but I get the point... he was an ol' style straight on kicker too, not a soccer-style with a much longer delivery & 2-3 steps instead of ol' style 1-2 steps {the ball was placed 7 yards behind the line then & now it's placed 8 yards behind the line, apples & oranges IMHFO}, like all the kickers are today & with a regular ball/non-kicking ball, they use a specific ball just for kicking today... it was the 60's he was a fat ol' dude not an athlete, like today...LOL... I'm just saying...

I saw on the news last night that the cold weather actually makes it harder, air density is up. They say that because is was that cold it cancelled the effect of altitude. All the other 63 yarders were at 65 degrees plus. Dempsey was a hell of a kicker, no disrespect, but if he was truly that handicapped I don't think he would have been playing in the NFL. I think the block shoe was an advantage. Kind of like using a club to kick with instead of flesh and bone.
Great kick in the cold, he's got the record all by himself now, you should be proud... Not to get overly **** retentive about it, But the rest is BS, air density, snow &/or cold doesn't cancel out 5280ft of elevation even in the snow/cold, Relative Air Density doesn't drop 5000ft+ with a 50* temperature change, it drops like 1200ft-1800ft outside chance of maybe 2500ft elevation, mainly because of barometer/cloud cover & not the cold, that can actually raise relative air density, which is like being in a lower elevation/better air... according to my weather machine, it make the altitude lower, not higher, that's why when it's colder/with cloud cover, generally you bump up your jetting relative air density {R-A-D is a combination of grains of water, ambient temperature, barometer & altitudes} if it's greater = lower altitudes.... 64 yards was a great kick either way, even at altitudes...

facts are facts, yes it was a great kick... OK enough of that crap

I didn't bring up the 15* thing about the altitude. Have you ever kicked a football in 15* temps? Lucky you don't break your foot. It's like kicking a cinder block.
2 of the other 63 yard 3-way ties were made in Mile High as well.

Anywho I think Demsey's wooden Foot was a great advantage. Why did his record stand so long before Elem tied it?

Exactly MM, no compression in the ball, like kicking a rock. And since you are getting **** about it Bud, Dempsey's foot was that way from birth not amputated. And the difference between sea level and 5000' is only roughly 1.8 PSI of atmospheric pressure. I can see where the increased density of a 50 degree temp swing could readily offset that if not come close. It's only a mile, we're not on Everest.

The distance is not really the biggest factor in a record like this. College and Pro kickers can nail them from 70-75 yards in practice fairly regularly. What's unique about it is that the circumstances rarely present themselves during a game. Most of the time, this far out, it's a punt for the 1 yard line. Not to mention the 9' reach of the goons on the line. Think about it.

Hell of a kick.

BTW how about them Raiders.

:laughing6:well just a few football pics:laughing6:

most teams won't try a field goal with the ball placed on their own 46 yard line, kicking from the opponents 46 yard line, if they don't make it, the other team has great field position... only 8 teams get a chance per year to go to "mile high"

SeaBass Janakowski made a 61 yarder in Oakland @ sea level IIRC, I think that's a much bigger feat...LOL... he made a 63 in "mile high" too, I can't remember if it was in the winter or not & he actually kicked the 61 yarder much farther into the catch-net, than the 63 yarder he barely made in Denver....

Thank you Miami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hello2:

X2. Hopefully they can squeeze into the playoffs.

Seahawks 23-Giants nada. First time the Giants have been shut out at home since '95. The Giants aren't too bad on defense, but their offense could only be generously described as horrible. How soon the great have fallen. Hard to believe they won it all just two years ago.

my lowly Raiders are down, KC 21 @ Raiders 10 w/13+ minute left in 1st half

And no more road games. Bring it on 49ers and Colts we're waiting for you.

How about them skins!!?? Damn, we sucked so bad today, we probably could've suck started an air craft carrier!!

Packers won, better half is happy.

I think the 'Hawks D had a little to do with that. Giants O line are the big problem.

Wow. There should be a team picture of the Dallas Cowboys in the dictionary next to the definition of El Foldo. Unbelievable, I loved it.

Amen that almost made my day, I love seeing Tom Brady lose, throws that pick when the Pats were in scoring position....

Yup Romo choked once again.Couldn't get much better.

That was almost as nice as Brady screwing up...LOL...

And Jay Cutler is still standing....

Damn they lose big 56-35, oh well I can't wait for the draft in April now & next year, when we have an extra $70 million freed up in cap money to spend on a quality QB & some receivers finally, get rid of McFadden he can't make it thru a full season yet... McCloin isn't the QB of the future, he proved that today threw 4 picks right to the KC defense guys & Pryor threw 1 too, even my little 13 y/o nephew Austin playing in Pop Warner could have picked those passes off...

Bengals folded, the Steelers actually looked pretty decent, for a win, I'd be really surprised if {loser coach} Todd Haley will still be the OC there next season....

I guess, it looks like, OC Kyle Shanahan is wanting out of Washington & under his father rein & out of the Redskins org. now too...
