Hello:
Going to swap the oil pan gasket on my road runner this weekend.
I've pulled the idler off the k member.
Can't find the correct socket for the pittman arm nut. My 1950s craftsman dial caliper shows precisely 1.3651. I've read 1 5/16 is correct, but believe it, or not, local auto stores, sears, and ACE hardware have no socket in stock.
Thanks for any assistance. Take care, Bill

Yep, it's an odd size. You "might" get lucky using a jumbo crescent wrench OR just order the correct socket online.

You don't have to pull the centerlink off the pitman arm to replace the oil pan gasket.

Really???
Please elaborate. EVERYTHING I have read says drop the center link (including FSM).

From my personal experience you don't have to remove the pitman arm end for the 402 pan.....Just maneuver the center link with the idler arm off around while removing the pan....

Okay. What do I have to lose I'll try it. Thanks!

I remove both center link nuts off the idler and Pittman arm, 3/4" socket I believe. Let the center link hang down, pan is wide open then

Correct. The pitman arm stays on the steering box.

I got my socket at NAPA many years ago. I find individual large sockets here at Ace in Sierra Vista.

Done it a gazillion times since the days in the shop. Use a puller (fork will rip the boots) to remove the 2 tie rod ends and the idler off the centerlink. LEAVE the pitman on, just move the centerlink out of the way.

Thanks for everyone's help. Fairly easy job. One bolt took lots of time to get back in.

Unfortunately still leaking in the same place. It must be the timing chain cover. Not going to be fixed anytime soon. I'll live with it for now.
