I have been using PPG paint for some time. When it comes to there base I have used from the cheep shop line to the expensive DBC. I have been using the deltron 4000 clear for some time & I like it but its getting expensive. I wouldn't mind trying the shop line clear. Has anyone used the shop line clear & what for number was it ?

We used DuPont with Nason over top, looked good for years but is letting loose now on the clear. I would recommend not mixing high end base with the old clear like we did they said it would be fine and I knew we shouldn’t... so it gets a repaint in the future. DuPont is now Xalta . Don’t mix just buck up and stay the same product all the way thru it’s like racing to the last lap and shutting it done because second is ok. Lol, PPG makes good products too, I wasn’t a fan of lesonal, Xalta / DuPont has a high end paint that is very durable not the old Imron line.... I can’t recall the line name but I recall how durable it was ... color match is important just like durability... choose wisely just be prepared as it’s been 10 years since I bought paint and I know the price is much more now. Good luck, visit many paint stores!

I used JC60 on a recent project for panel painting an old Jeep. Small panels and it was apart, not an assembled vehicle. I would use it for small parts and wheels but I wouldn’t use it for an overall paint job on an old car. It flowed well and I did de-nib some spots, it buffed up like the 4000 did.

I’ve noticed that PPG clear still stays soft for longer than Axalta does. The last car I did in PPG I had to wet stand and buff a year later and some spots around emblems and door handles printed.

Our R/T was done is Axalta and I did the cut and buff. That was a lot harder than PPG and a year later no problem areas and it still looks great, no buffing again.

All I use is PPG Shop-line JC630 and have never had a problem with it. Just remember to follow the tech sheet and let the BC set at least 30 minutes but less than 24 hours before applying the clear. I usually let it set for 24 hours before cut and buff. I spray on two med wet coats and the stuff looks great. I would put it against the higher dollar stuff and challenge one to find a difference. Last gallon I got was less than $100 if I remember right. I have not had to re-do any of the work when using JC630. Others might not, but I give it two thumbs up!!

I forgot one important thing when using JC630. It has 4 hardners JC6360, JC 6370, JC6380, and JC 6390. They change based on temperature but are easy to remember. Use JC6360 for temps in the 60's, use JC6370 for temps in the 70's and so on. Also remember to cut your re-coat time as the temp goes up.
