Petition to change seatbelt rule from 2 to 5 years.

Yup...broken for me too. Yeah, 2 years is stooooopid but tests have showed that with terrible abuse, they deteriorate pretty fast and there are some country bumpkins that leave their cars outside in the hot east Texas sun and that's probably the worse thing you can do to belts.....

:iamwithstupid:
In the scheme or overall cost of things racing related items,
it's not really that much money in comparison, I always had them recertified,
so I didn't have to change attaching hardware or mounting points etc...

It's for safety, that's a good thing
{but how many belts have you ever seen fail or the stiches unravel etc. ?}
& really more of a hassle or a PITA than the financial aspects too,
seems like every aspect of racing today, is nickel & diming you to death...

Just about anything with a SFI rating/cert needs to be recertified sooner or later...

That's the thing, how many of you racers change out your belts, and say to yourself WTF... these belts are brand new why am I changing them. the round track racers don't have this rule. why is drag racing any different?

Some circle track rules let them run belts for five years. We sold several sets to them when ours expired...

When I went to the track this past Oct my belts were just over 2 years old as I had bought them in April of 2012 so I figured they should let me run. Heck they never even looked inside the car or they really did not look the car over at all as they just gave it a quick glance and that was it. And I was hoping they would let me race that day and tell me dont come back without new belts but they never even checked them. Ron

My current belts have been to the track 3 times, 500 miles on them, parked for a year, now out of date! Not even comfortably broken in yet. They'll go to the passenger side & another new set for the driver side. Hopefully NHRA will change, but VERY doubtful.

For what it's worth if you have out of date belts you can remove the tag. They are now legal to 11.50. 11.50 and up doesn't require an SFI belt. No tag, no out of date. I know this doesn't help us guys running lower than 11.50. I personally only had my belts checked 1 time last year, I run at numerous different tracks. Never had anything else looked at and was never asked for my license. My car runs low nines.
