Preference: Smooth or Cogged V-Belts?

According to my initial investigation, cogged v-belts are superior (even draw less horsepower to drive).

Yep, cogged.
 
Watch out for the cogs on the outside of the belts if you have an idler pulley that rides on the outside of the belt. The ac belt on my 318 whistled like hell until I changed to a belt with the cogs on the inside
 
Dayco belts. First belts to go over 200 on a closed course.
If cogs were so great, Chrysler Engineering would have used them.
