Hi all...I was curious about pushrod lengths (maybe there's a general rule 'o thumb?) on an R/B..how much can a block be decked, if any, before you need to use a shorter pushrod, with the stock rockers? (When they shoot through the valve covers is an unacceptable answer lol:rolleyes:)

Give the good folks at Mantonpushrods.com a toll free call @ 1.877.626-8667. Tell them what you have and what you are doing. They will give you the technical info you are looking for to best suite your particular needs and more :)

Normally any decking then requires a different length pushrod.
Even different head gasket thickness can have an effect on adjustable rockers.

Safest thing to do is bolt everything up and get a pushrod checking tool to make sure of your lenth. Takes the guesswork work out of it.

OK thanks guys, this was more for informational purposes only...seen some some conflicting stuff and just wanted to see what you thought

The specs for a 1975 440 is 0.060" to 0.210" with a dry (not pumped up) lifter. When your lifter is in the normal position for adjusting, you should be able to push the pushrod down and measure the clearance between the valve and rocker arm. You do NOT have to change the pushrods for any old change in the deck, gasket, head, seat, but you might with a combination of all of these. I don't usually have an issue with Mopar as the window is so large, but Fords are a pain in the ***.

Best way is to get and adjustable pushrod and check the length with the cam on the base circle. If you are running a hydrolic cam, you want .20-.40 preload. Usually 1/4 turn will get you there on the preload. All that said, if you check your preload with the pushrods you have and you are within tolerance then you should be fine. Solid lifters are far more critical to get an exact measurement
