Question? For others that have lost weight?

FINALLY staying below 190! Lately been bouncing between 184 and 188. Bought a new gun a few days ago and was 186 and that's what I put on the paperwork. Sure felt good writing that number lol

Congrats man! It feels great doesn't it? I am seriously focusing on my Keto diet and watching what I eat and staying away from beer. Only time will tell I guess.

Haven't really changed my diet much except for not snacking late at night but have been exercising a lot more.....

To update this posting from a few past replies that i made.
During April to October 2023, last year, i lost 50 pounds, starting at 230, and got down to 180.
And this year i even have lost a few more pounds.
Been staying right around the 175-177 range, now a days.
This is weight when i was a kid in my 20's, and in the Air Force.
Gotta renew my California drivers license in three more weeks, and that's the weight that will be but down on the license.
So pretty good for a 5' 11" 71 year old man.
Continue to walk 3 miles a day, each walk one mile, and on my bicycle i now can do a 15 miles round trip on the American River Trail without killing myself. lol
Exercising keeps the weight off.
Again, for me, walking, and the bicycle is my claim to fame for the weight loss.
For you folks that are on a weight loss schedule, you do have to exercise, whatever works for you, and eat a lot less, and sensibly.

I’ve been trying for 37 years to get my wife on a regular protein diet with very little success.
My wife has fought weight gain her entire life, but has been stable for over 40 years with a balanced high protein, low carb diet, and exercise regimen similar to the OP. It's worked for her, because she actually enjoys what she eats. Bigger issue at age 71 is joint deterioration, making exercise more difficult. Multiple joint replacements have gone well, but there's always the next one waiting to happen.

Weighed 185/190 from 18 to about 40 years old but got up to about 230 about a decade ago. Switched from regular Pepsi to diet and dropped down to 195 in 3 months. Changed Nothing else in my diet. Managed to get back up to 205/210 this Summer... but I know why.

Guess it wasn't the beer, it was lack of running after the granddaughters I guess. I'm back to 192.

I didn't see it mentioned, as we age we lose testosterone/growth hormones levels
keep fat off & energy up, both of them help keep off weight...

I asked the dr. about it he said he could prescribe it/them,
but I wasn't at a bad or too low level
& I hate taking any meds if I can avoid it

It is a common problem with aging males lose testosterone & growth hormones
& they gain weight too, loss of energy & inactivity

I don't do breakfast or rarely do...
I do black coffee...
I eat lunch, usually a wrap or bowl of Ramen soup (400 calories),
not much bread, more tortillas wraps
& a well rounded dinner, dinner consists of a meat, some sort of fruit or veggy,
decent size servings & a starch (smaller amount) all 3 every dinner...
Try & mix it up so not boring same ol' meals...
No desserts...
(Used to ice cream alot)
:carrot:
Ice Cream #1.jpg

Sides (Carbs/starches) like usually pasta salad, potato salad,
oven/air fried homemade steak fries, occasionally rice, sometime I'lll fix it up
I'll add tomatoes, sliced olives, mushrooms, onions, with crushed or minced garlic...

I do a lot of beans, lentils, split-pea soups & 5 bean soup is my favorite
Use a 1/2-1# pound of meat hamburger, brown & drain grease off
(Recipe it make like 6+ servings),
usually lean 10% or 20% fat ground beef for me & dad,
add onions peppers diced tomatoes olives mushrooms
some spices, like chile' powder, lemon pepper, fresh minced garlic
sort of the same deal with pasta sauces, add diced tomato & tomatoes sauce & sauté
each of them, it makes like 6 meals, 3 different dinners for 2...

Easy for leftovers, or a quick lunch
every so often I spurge & do *New England Clam Chowder (*guilty Pleasure)
once in a blue moon, we'll do ice cream, not often now...
Used to do it like every other day when I was younger...

I make homemade 3-4 bean salad for sides at dinner,
have a batch usually in the fridge
(like the pasta salad & the potato salad too, easy side dishes)

Only coffee in the AM, usually just hot & black
At dinner especially I make sure every meal has a small potion of a starch
a decent bigger portion of veg.s (lots of green veggies) or fruit salad etc.
& some sort of meat...
Most lean meats I buy, pork steaks, beef steaks, hamburger, ground sausage,
a couple meals of fish, salmon or tilapia, shrimp frozen usually now, shells & tails off
pretty big shrimp, dad's not a huge fan of eating fish, he likes shrimp though...

I like baked chicken eat it probably the most of meats, 10 days a month probably...
*one of my on guilty pleasures, I do a great oven baked/air "fried chicken" (Convection)
virgin olive oil wash & rolled/shake'd around non processed whole wheat flour/baking powder
cornstarch & with spices
I put it in the fridge for a couple hrs before cooking,
makes a nice tasting faux fried chicken (oven baked on an grid like elevated pan) ,
with homemade shoestring French fries... this feeds 3-4
Airfried chicken & fries 001.JPG

*guilty pleasures
Except for good hot dogs/polish sausage dogs (I know processed food)
I like for lunch a couple times a week, again usually a wrap not in a bun...

*I do sweet cornbread (a lot less now, dad doesn't eat it anymore)
or homemade drop biscuits no butter or honey or that type of stuff
with beans or soups sometimes too

*or drop dumplings, I make a mean chicken & dumplings

We eat fruit & vegetables with or mixed in, a min at dinner, or a side dish
or fruit salads sometime over cottage cheese
or my dad will eat fruit every breakfast time usually, cuttie oranges
I'll have an orange or apple as a snack every so often... Mid-day
Like I said before I rarely eat bread, my dad was 185#s 5'8" in his prime
he eats seems like everything between 2 pieces of bread, usually toasted too
he's 135#s at 87 now...

65 y/o now
I'm not a small guy, German/Norwegian, big bones 6'2" (shrinking)
my natural weight is 250-ish + or - 10-12#s it fluxuates
I feel better at 235
I have friends that wear the same size close
& about the same size/height as I am & they 'are fatter than I am' by far
I'm heavy (in my weight not appearance) been heavy most my life
I have big bones too, big wrists shoulder feet knees etc.
when I'm 225 I feel great, look great for my age, at about 250# + or -
a few lbs, I now wear 38x36" paints/straight leg boot cut style denim...
I can't stand tight pants,
so I buy them bigger wash & drying shrink them to fit loose now...
In my prime it was 34x36" 501s Levis, in my mid-30s to like 50-55 a 36" waist
I don't buy Levi's brand anymore

I go up & down a lot more since retiring, having to sit around a lot more
dealing with dad & going to dr.s or sitting way too much...
A lot less energy than I used to have, maybe it's habit now too...
Life catches up with everyone sooner or later...
I was always an active person, not as much now...
Construction work kept me in great shape too...

I've notice my energy levels have gone way down, for about 5 years now
lack of motivation to do some stuff/work usually...
I do walk a lot, not the heavy lifting like I did while working construction
I like to walk when I golf too, I'm sure that helps some
I do walks with my dog too...

I was wearing a step meter for a month or so,
neighbor a friend wanted to compare what we did...
I was doing like 10,000 steps a day min.
mostly walking around the house, going in & out with the dog, almost dbl'd it...
(now newish puppy it is even worse)

Been doing Metamucil reg. 1 time in the am now,
2 tblsp in a 12 oz glass of cold water, chug it down 1st thing
seems to clear you out better...
I don't feel weighed down, even at that same weight 250-ish
Never thought I'd drink something like that, I highly recommend it, also
helped cholesterol levels & blood pressure too, mine aren't too high to begin with...
(maybe fiber helping getting the bad stuff out of the intestines)

Me on the right dad on the left, 10 years ago
I look about the same, lil more grey
My dad is a lot older looking a lot more frail now, he was 77 in that photo 180-ish
can't hardly keep weight on him now, 87 & 135-140#s, it's sad

I like to walk more than ride, sometimes we want to play quicker

I think anything in moderation is the key
variety in life so it's not boring maybe too...

Don't pig out or binge eat ever (dopers should quit smoking pot :poke: )
don't eat a whole pizza (been there done that)
or drink a whole six pack of soda (yuk)

I don't drink (alcohol or beer) much either now...
Known to do a six pack every so often, of a good beer,
not the Miller or Coors or Bud crap, once every 2 months or so, usually next door
I usually don't eat after either, too full/bloated on beer...
That probably helps, but when I drank beer I ate less probably...

I used to eat a lot of homemade baked hotter spiced nuts,
walnuts almond peanuts cashews pecans, I rarely eat them now...
My dad can't eat it, so I don't have it in the house...

Just can't drink around dad, recovering 60+ years alky,
caused 99% of his health issues, a quart a day, he's sober for about 2 years now...
I just don't want to temp him...
