I'm getting ready to paint the engine compartment on my 63 Polara and from what I understand part or all of the radiator support was black from the factory. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

Thanks for the pics. So even the top rail of the support was black?

I'm pretty sure.
My car was "virgin" when I picked it up.
All support was black on mine.
There "should" be some more help from other members to verify this.
These guys know everything on this site. Hope this helps!

That is gonna be a sweet ride when you are done. I saw a pic of a supposedly original 62 and the front rad support was black except for the top and down about an inch or 2 and that was body color. Thanks again.

My 64 Polara 500 was body color. Every 62-65 b body that I have seen has been body color, does that mean anything, no, but who knows what the factory did back then. I dont think the factory started doing the black until 66.

E, this might help....I also think body color

the '63 has not been restored.

I know Sonny from the local Mopar shows. He looked online at some pics of original parts cars and so did I. It sure looks like most of the early B's had black in back of the grill and the rest was body color including the top of the support and about 4" down from there on the front side. I'm sure there are some exceptions also. Thanks.

My creamish Savoy had black rad support paint
my green Fury has blackout paint too; i will post some pics tomorrow when i get home!!
As fas as i know that some dark colored cars didn't get the blackout ( like blue and black cars ) and that light colored cars got it.
But Chrysler wouldn't be Chrysler if they didn't make any deviations on this rule )

I was just trying to show that with Ma Mopar, it wasn't cut and dry with what they did back in the day, as Mr4speed said.

I agree 5.7 its never cut and dry its just a hit or miss on some minor things like this I say pick I think its cleaner looking body color but its not my car

Thanks for all the input. All of you have confirmed what I thought all along. Ma Mopar painted the front of the support both ways. It could have been as simple as who was painting that day or which factory it came out of. From what I understand the painters first started painting the engine compartment and when they mastered that skill they would be moved to painting the body.

Sometimes the blackout paint was shot all the way up to the upper bar ( don't know the exact name, the bar that holds the vin-number ) and this car only had minimal blackout.
