...about 'the thief', well, I decided to offer him a deal, about 50 cents on the dollar if he could do that, I'd forgive the debt, and not file suit paperwork in small claims court. He did, and threw in a nice SATA gun in the deal too. I feel better not harboring ill-will towards him, and the situation, makes me a better person even though he got some free stuff, oh well!

On a good (and sort of related) I did my taxes last night at H&R Block; good news, 848% increase in PROFIT in 2012 vs. 2011, 2011 being the first year I made money after 3 yrs of losing money. So, even getting hosed, I still made out ok.

Careful with h&r block.

Most of their tax preparers know less than you do.

The only time I ever got in trouble with the IRS was the one time I let h&r do my taxes.

Congrats on finally making some business money, or more shameless plugs...LOL... I would have still gone after the thief, it's been going on, "way to long", to not do something to the loser thief, not holding up his end of a deal or contract, screwing you &/or your customers/suppliers, out of time, labor, effort & money spent... but good for you, your a better or more forgiving person than I am I guess...

Glad you got the matter cleared up. I'm sure you had to think long and hard about making a deal with him. It couldn't have been easy. It probably would've been a hassle for you to go to court even though you had everything on your side, You still would have had to spend your afternoon in court instead of making your profit in your shop. Be careful on your taxes. You don't want to have the IRS see that you're making more money then they are. LOL. With the profit you made, you can now afford to send everybody here a case of that BBQ sauce we hear so much about.

Good on ya Donny! Life goes on. It's not worth holding a grudge.

Unless your a Raiders fan & we're talking about the Patriots & the tuck rule....LOL... then it's allowed & by far necessary...

It was eating me up, so, I flushed it, he's not doing cars anymore, he's doing roofing! So, roof folks beware! lol As for H&R Block, been going to the same place 3 yrs now, the agent was in the Army with me over in Iraq, so, its a SMALL world after all! Yeah, my Mustang customer is also an H&R Block representative, and, I know what you mean by level of institutional knowledge, but, they're putting their company behind the return with the cheap insurance called Peace of Mind they offer for $35.00 bucks on the return. I'm not worried about the IRS, all my ducks are in order, they set the deductions and write-offs, I just take advantage of them! If anyone wants some BBQ sauce from Rudy's, PM me with addy and I'll hook you up, offer good till tax day...:)

It's much easier to have ill feelings for another person than it is to forgive (or come to a resolution) and move on and I admire you for how you handled it. Job well done!!

That just happened to me too! I have been using H&R block the last 4 years. 6 months ago got a back tax bill from uncle Sam for an incorrect deduction. I chose a real CPA for this year and the CPA discovered last years return had enough errors to total to me owing another 4k. I couldn't believe it!

Careful with h&r block.

Most of their tax preparers know less than you do.

The only time I ever got in trouble with the IRS was the one time I let h&r do my taxes.

Is not H&R Block suppose cover there mistakes? Take the blame?

I think they cover the penalties (interest and late fees), not the actual additional tax you might owe.
My situation is compounded in that my tax preparer of the last 3 years is the sister of a good friend. I will ask her for penalty and interest reimbursement, but I won't use her services again and I'm not sure she'll actually willingly pay me. I need to handle it carefully and not cause any friction with my buddy. Business is business, but some people don't see it that way...he will, but I'm thinking she won't.

A long hard battle comes to an end and you came out the victor, congrats! :brave:

I think you made the right move with your gesture of forgiveness. Harboring the anger and carrying the load of hatred is much harder on us than we realize.
