Wondering what the practice is to apply sealant to the pinion spline while mounting the yoke?

I had one center section that had sealant slopped all over the spline, but apparently not the other.

I read the FSM and no mention of applying sealant to the spline during reassembly.

Anyhow trying to figure out if I'm popping the yoke one more time and applying sealant.

I have used liquid teflon for years, never a leak.

Yes, Teflon sealent. Every axle I did at the dealer got it.

2nd that on putting Teflon on the splines. Oil can and does wick out past the splines.

Well it was worth waking up today! I learned something new and it makes perfect sense. I haven't had too many rears apart, but I'll remember this if I ever do again.

Yes, they do seep but it's very slow....like years. The splines are machined at a very close tolerance and rear end oil isn't exactly light weight. If it's an 89 case, I wouldn't bother taken it back off....
