I was in fear for my life!!
That's the only words you need to know after your done pumping the fool full of lead!

And as my officer friend said don't hurt the purp kill him! More paperwork yes but less issues in long run!

And the best don't be cheap with your bullets if you shoot the dude a extra one or two to really make sure he's dead is well worth it!

Oh and if he's black ! Please hide the body I can't take no more race protests!

Less than 21 feet n my knife wins. Most self defense is close n personal. Knife trumps gun then.

“The great mistake is to anticipate the outcome of the engagement; you ought not to be thinking of whether it ends in victory or defeat. Let nature take its course, and your tools will strike at the right moment.”

In a perfect world where your adversary doesn't move a muscle, perhaps. I'll take my chances with
the boomstick...
That 21 foot rule stuff always reminds me of this scene from Justified, which for some odd reason
always cracked me up:

As a non gun country....how does that work?....surely a bullet will get 21ft faster than a thrown knife or a running knifeman....or have I missed something???

Well, if I'm not 'ready' as in my shirt is hanging over my pea shooter, then maybe your knife will win but I rarely have my shirt hanging over my pea shooter.

And anything smaller than a 40 cal is too small. (Me)

My CCP instructor taught us "If he deserved the first one, he deserves more..."

This came from some LEA training back in the day, they timed an officer's draw and engagement time, then timed how long it would take for an assailant to move a distance and came up with the 21 feet mark to train officers that under that distance they needed to be at a much heightened sense of alert and preparedness. There are way too many variables at play here not the least of which is the skill and intention of each party. A person trained and skilled at wielding a knife is going to be a serious threat against someone untrained, unprepared or unwilling to use their firearm however (as shown in the justified video), someone with a firearm who is trained, skilled, prepared and willing to use their firearm is going to be much more deadly against a knife even at very close range. Yes, they might get stabbed or sliced but the other dude is getting ventilated many times and unlike a knife, a bullet goes much deeper, tends to expand and affects more senses such as visual and hearing all at the same time.

Its all about circumstances, training and commitment.
