Had the dash out to deal with some connection/electrical issues and when we reinstalled we had to disconnect the cable from the transmission to pull the speedo wire back to get the clip to install in the dash. The speedo cable was replaced not too long ago and worked fine before we removed the dash cluster.

Got it all back together and everything was fine for a while, but then the speedo started jumping and finally stopped working and you could hear the speedo cable end had come loose from the speedo.

Got underneath today and the outer sheath of the speedo cable has actually come out of the back of the plastic clip that connects to the dash. I have tried to get the sheath to get tight in the clip but it just moves around.

How does the cable sheath lock into the plastic clip (or does it)? Can I disconnect from the transmission and try to push it tight and push/wiggle the the speedo wire back into the back of the speedometer in the dash.

Or... gasp do I have to take the dash. out again to fix this? :( Or is this a problem with a cheap repop speedo cable?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Sounds like the cable housing has come apart. New assembly will probably be necessary.

Nothing "locks" the outer sheath to the speedo housing connector. I have used 3M or Locktite brands plasti-weld 2-part epoxy , specifically made for plastic repairs, for things like this many times. Just rough up the areas you want to use it on a little, before gluing.
