Rebuilding my restored column, and during the takedown I was taking pictures. Well, lesson learned…. I didn’t take enough!

1) Is the order in the diagram correct?
The top pieces go after the gear sprocket?

2) Does the turn lever get attached with the long screw?

3) Where does the rubber piece go?

4) Am I missing a sleeve (19-14-123)?

Thanks kindly!

The rubber piece is the top bearing cup AND the staple is there to make the ground between the bearing and the column - or your horn won't work!

Ok well thats not an answer what was wrong with the original one?

The sleeve goes over the roll pin and prevents it from backing out, if you don’t have it, probably won’t hurt to leave it out

Is that horseshoe shaped thing the rubber piece you’re talking about? I don’t remember seeing that, and I’m currently putting my ‘70 column together

The screw for the turn signal goes through the switch and threads into the lever. It’s a slotted hex head with a tapered end to guide it into the levers threads.

Note: I took one off a ‘68 column to use in my ‘70 column. When I got everything back together, the shaft was hard to turn. I found the turn lever bolt was slightly too long and binding on the lock plate. I trimmed 1/16” off and was good to go

You need 2 snap rings, they go on both sides of the bearing. They keep the steering wheel from having fore/aft movement

Also, test your turn signal switch before putting it together if possible, those aftermarket ones can be bad right out of the box. Check ALL settings with the brake applied too, the switch can keep the brake lights from working

You’re also missing the retaining plate

The rubber piece is hard to mistake, the top bearing fits it perfectly.

I'd hazard a guess that rubber piece is a cushion for the turn signal lever. It's just a guess! Take more pictures next time.
