My Super Stock springs showed up today. Part numbers P3690456 & P3690457. On the left spring P3690457 the leaves are drilled and have plastic insulators, the right spring P3690456 does not. Does anyone have set that they can look at to see if this is correct or is this another of Chrysler less than QC issues. Thanks

I just made a post about this, its 2 posts under this one ! I've had a replacement 456 sent to me and it also did not have the pads b/t the springs. Summit then sent me a 457 spring to replace the 456, i'll run 2 left side springs. The 456 made a racket driving down the road, constantly squeaked ....

I did the same thing over the summer, running two 457s and haven't had a problem with squeaking either.

My bad, I should have searched a little more. Calling Summit today to return the 456 and get another 457.

Little confused here. The passenger side is supposed to be anextra leaf ...right? Am I hearing that the right side doesn't come from manufacturer with pads and is noisy so you replace with another left spring? If two lefts are used you lose the advantage of the extra spring for hard launches/torque twists. Is it just me, because I would be raising hell to get the pads on the passenger spring to make this right? There must be something that I'm not seeing here....fill me in please?

Mocajava, Theoretically you are correct. If this was a dedicated drag car, I would do a Cal Trac system. I am more looking to replace the sagging stock springs and gain a little more heigth. My previous experience with the regular HD replacement springs is that you don't get much extra heigth out of them. I like the late '70's street machine look and this will be a street car with occasional dragstrip passes. 2 of the 457's should make the car sit level without the noise. I'm thinking that I could add the 2 half leaves from the worn out stock HD leaves to the right spring if it needs additional stiffness.

I have these exact same springs on my '67 Satellite and I can tell you that they didn't add much additional height at all compared to my ancient stock springs that I took off. So if that is your reason for running them, you might want to rethink that.

Correct, the front segment on the right side spring is beefier. It is a purpose built spring for drag racing, I use them for the ride height and the ride quality is not harsh at all. Running 2 left side springs will not affect the ride at all ... And good luck "trying to raise hell" and getting a 457 spring with pads, the spring leafs are not even drilled to hold the pads in place ! According to the Mopar tech line the are designed for function not ride quality or noise

That's interesting. I've run the 456/457 on 2 different cars and 002/003 on my dart. Every time the rear was raised considerably, so as far as running them just for a rear end raise there is not much thinking to be done ! when you get a chance put a S/S spring next to a factory spring and tell me you don't see a difference in the arch ...

are they still mexican springs?

My 002/003 springs had made in Mexico stenciled on them, the 456/457 did not have the stencil

Those springs used to be made in Canada and were worth every penny. Now they're made in Mexico and worth less.

I must have the worthless Mexican springs because my ride height is pretty much the same.

I bought the 3400 lb Superstock springs from Mancini and this is just how my 63 sits when they were bolted in. Ron

Mine are the 0454 (R) & 0455 (L) SS springs and they are constructed exactly like yours, 0455 has the plastic insulators and the 0454 does not.

At least Chrysler was consistent...........whether there is an engineering reason for this or not!

Well, what did you expect? Chrysler moved production to Mexico to save money, since they bought them cheaper in Mexico they would naturally be worth less.

I will say that mine make the right side sit up higher than the left. I raced it for awhile that way and it worked really well, I was able to get some really decent 60 foot times. Then, read some stuff online about raising your driver's side torsion bar up to make the rear end sit level. I tried that and it didn't hook as well so I put it back the way it was with the right rear more hiked up than the left.

I adjusted my torsion bars as soon as I put my SS springs on because it was a bit unlevel. But its always hooked fine for just SS springs and has pulled a 1.50 best 60 ft. Ron

I have a set that I bought from a guy years ago (maybe 20 years) and one of them has a number 3690456 and the other does not have a number that I can find. The one without the number has 7 leafs and neither of mine have the plastic insulators.

You can remove the springs you have and take them to a good spring shop. Have them disassembled and cleaned and re-arched. If your a racer you can add a leaf to the RR to stiffen. Try to jack the weight off your springs and work some grease or lube between the leafs from time to time. It really makes a difference. (Noise & Ride quality) Dave
