Trick Flow 240's and Spark Plugs

Starting to sound like maybe it is all in the tuning. My car seems like it can go from neck-snappin' tire-melter to grannymobile if I let the tune get away from me...I did notice, they put the cam in at 110, 2 degrees back from the card spec of 108? Maybe Dwayne(@PRHeads) could shed some light on the benefit there for your engine. Off the top of my haircut-needing-head I'd say it's gonna make so much torque anyway, you could afford to sacrifice some bottom and move the powerband up a bit? I'm sure that has no bearing on your current trouble though, still good numbers. Man..you've been having a helluva time with your build lately I hope you get it nailed soon!

The numbers look good, and it hangs on solidly to 6K.

If the cooling system is up to it, I’d try a colder thermostat and see if that helped.

You could also try spiking the fuel with a small dose of race gas and see how much it takes before the pinging is gone.

Yeah, this is really getting frustrating. Nowhere near the performance I was expecting. I'll probably have to call Brian again and get his thoughts. Also seems like there is a lot more noise coming from the top end of the motor from what I am used to hearing from a hydraulic tappet.

Won't that just open earlier than my 180, but still want to run at 190?

Good 'ol comp XE/HL lobes...noisy.

What size of fuel line are you running? Has to be at least 3/8.

3/8". Problem was in the engine build as posted in #27 above.

When you get this sorted, if you find you need more octane, read up on using E30, if you have E85 available to you. It is a blend of pump 91 with pump E85. It will increase your octane level a few points, you will need to retune/adjust your fuel ratio since it has less BTU and will require more fuel. You will get the power back by putting timing where it wants to be, and it is cheaper than race gas.

With the Trick Flow 240 heads, what total timing seems to be right? On the 505" TF240 Engine we just set total to 32 degrees and then planned to make changes on the chassis dyno. Never got to tune it. I sold the engine to a friend who drove it around for about a year, and then somehow a bolt got dropped into the intake, got into the chamber, and smashed everything so bad it split the cylinder wall :(

After posting this, I just watched the new video from Nicks garage where he dynos a TF240 head stroked 440.
