Ok folks...just picked up an item on my bucket list (69 RR)....."almost finished"....
Anyway, tons of web searching, coming up empty--- i cant seem to find the parts i need... drivers side under dash, just above the e-brake theres a hole letting in tons of fresh air...seems like there should be something there with a control to open or close it? During my search, i dont know even what to call it!
Same on passenger side, fresh air coming in thru the heater box with no control?
Help!

OK, this is a guess. Is your 69 a non-A/C car? My 70 RR came without A/C and has two vent cables on either side of the steering wheel just below the dash by my knees...one for driver & one for passenger. They let in a TON of air on the highway. Maybe 69 is similar?

On a related note, I have "heard" that the vent cables are the same as 69 air grabber cables, except the air grabber has a metal sticker that says "fresh air" or something like that over the top of the handle that says "vent".

That's exactly how my '69 is.
This is what you should see on each side under the dash. The vent cables that Purple Beeper mentions connect to these vent openings.

Ranger----that sure looks like whats missing on my drivers side! Where can i find one? Checked yearone, classic ind, and many more sites with no luck?

Ranger, you are a helpful dude. You might check on this site in the "parting out" section too.

Thanks Ranger!

Thanks, I help where I can. That's why we're all here.
Never checked the parting out forum. Looks like a treasure trove.

The more I look, the more I'm convinced that only the left side is replaceable. The right side is part of the heater box with a cover over it.

where does the heat actually come out? is it those 2 round outlets? or are those for defrost hoses?

On a non a/c car the heat comes out the two round holes that go to the defrost vents in the dash under the windshield and the floor vent (not shown in the picture above). If air is blowing out the large vent on the passenger side the lever is probably open. You should be able to close it with your hand.

OK.....so the floor vent is somewhere under the box, maybe in the middle?

Yes. Far left side and on the right side in the pic above (you can see the screw sticking through into the vent).

Here another picture of the assembly in my car when i had the dash out. ('69 Coronet)

Cables might still be there, just broke where they attach to the dash. They could be tucked up under the dash.

YUP! that's what mine looks like....(except I have no cables...)
Hey Koosh, well the good news is that you can operate those levers by hand. The inner cable just slides in/out & that moves each one of those levers back/forth about 2". I had the heater cable broken on my car for several years & would just move that lever one way in the summer & move it back the other way in the winter.

I think Ranger is right about the driver's side box being just what he showed in the picture & the passenger side vent being part of the whole heater box.

So it sounds like you need to find the driver's side box with the rubber seal (not shown in Ranger's driver's side box picture, but you can see one in his big heater box picture). Take an extra good look to make sure your cables aren't just tucked up in somewhere like Kenton said too. IF you have the cables & they're broken (assuming the outer housing is good) you can probably just find some bailing wire to fix it. I might have some extra control cables in my garage too if you get stuck. I believe all the cables are the same for several years & only the length matters, so you could cut down longer cables if necessary. They are just rolled into a loop on each end for an attachment point.

Thanks Purple, and Wietse....i DO have the complete box with passenger side vent, this car underwent near total restoration, but not completed.....so no cables. Its not a numbers matching car, so paying $55 for a cable is not gonna happen! Lol! I plan to get a couple nice chrome choke cables off ebay for $10 a piece!
Again....thanks everyone for all the help!
