There is already a plan in place to address this, but I am concerned. Not that it won't work, but I know that this absolutely cannot be how this gets resolved because it involves having machine work done, and there's no way that is occurring on a widespread basis.
I'll do my best to describe what I was told, and that is the blue anodized aluminum "floating stud carrier" would not slide past a step on the input shaft bearing retainer (the "snout cover" over the input shaft). Also using the threaded stud to replace one bolt in the retainer didn't work either.
No configuration of the floating stud carrier and shims worked, it either made too much or too little space between the T.O. bearing and the diaphragm of the pressure plate.
That's the best I can offer.
My mechanic called Gary in tech support at American Powertrain and they concluded that machining the floating stud carrier to slide over the step would work.
Unfortunately I'm not there to SEE this, and I'm lost as to the problem OR the proposed solution.
Can any of you describe what you did, what you have, any idea what they are talking about and how their "solution" changes that?
If you have any pictures of your setup, please post them.
Thanks!
If I can post pix I will. I'm thinking about going there tomorrow just so I can see and understand, and maybe to see how this is usually taken care of.
