hey guys,
just chasing some help on valves and valve springs.

I want to replace the ones on the stealth heads to match my new cam and stroker. plus i think the ones on at the moment are single springs with a dampner.

anyone able to tell me how to choose or which ones ( size wise etc.)
i should be looking for with these specs and whether i should go single, dual or triple springs etc.

440 stroker 505
stealth heads ported
lunati cam hyd flat tappet
specs:Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 300/305
Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 250/255
Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .540/.540
LSA/ICL: 108/104
Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
RPM Range: 3000-6800

I Bought A Set of 440 Aluminum Stealth Heads From 440Source With No Valves And Put Severe Duty Stainless Steel Manley 2.14 By 1.81 Valves In Them And They Work Like A Charm!

You really need to call the cam company to get the pressures and installed height.

ok i will try, lunati are such bastards to get hold of.
thanks

I like the Isky #8005A, plus the matching 10* retainers (STR-10) and locks. I think the 2.14 and 1.81 valves will suit you.

i will have a look at those thanks
anyone recommend seals? i really dont like felpro anymore too many failures.

The guides should be cut for positive seals. You will need to measure the OD of the machined part of the guide to get the proper seal ID. A good heat resistant seal material is Viton. Once you get the guide OD and confirm the valve stem size of 3/8", you should be able to get the proper seal.

I have Stealth heads here and the guides are .530" and the valve stems are 11/32".

As to valve springs for the Lunati cam, you could use something like the Comp Cams 924-16 spring. However, the springs that come standard on the Stealth heads should also handle that camshaft, I just measured a set 2 hours ago. The Stealth springs are 135-140 lbs at installed height and 350-360 lbs at .600" lift.

so i might not even need to change them as they are brand new, they are all comp cams springs and valves already, i was just unsure if they could hold up to the big difference in my original cam to this new one.

Comp Cams springs and valves? What is the valve spring part number? Comp Cams valves, never heard of them.

I don't see your Lunati cam number, but according to the specs from 440 Source on those heads, the springs are supposed to be go up to 0.600" lift, and should be fine. If the head comes with valves, seals, springs, why do you need to change it? The only changes I would make is to go to the 10 degree retainers and keepers because of the lift you will be using. The retainers and locks are both sold on the same page as the heads on the 440 Source website.

10 Degree 11/32" Retainers: 145-1003 $59.95
10 Degree Locks: 145-1002 $29.95

Everything you need right there.

was just concerned as the heads are in the same way they were when i ran this cam on the fairly stock 440.

  • Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276
  • Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 226/234
  • Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .494/.513
  • LSA/ICL: 110/106
  • Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
  • RPM Range: 1800-6200

i have now gone to a 505 stroker with this cam: and was worried the valves and springs might not be producing enough lift or strong enough etc etc.
