My question is were there any 1965 426 Max Wedges built? I was under the impression that 1964 was the last year. Does anyone know any different? I know they built 426 Street Wedges in 1964 and 1965.

No there was no 1965 Max Wedges. Part way thru the 1964 year they stopped the Max Wedge and started the Hemi production run. The only 426 still made in 65 was the 365 hp street wedge. Ron

Thanks Ron, that's what I thought. Will PM you.

there wasn't any cast in 65 but there was plenty still assembled / built in 65.

If there were plenty built/assembled in 65,where did they go ?
I guess I used a wrong choice of words there where still some " not plenty" factory blocks assembled in 65 not cars

By the way is was great to meet you and see your awesome 62 up close ! Ron

I am not aware of any in 65 other then replacement Max Wedge parts in the parts department for repairs on Max Wedge engines. Is that what you mean ? Ron

What I was trying to get at was there were no 426 Max wedge cars produced in 1965 Dodge or Plymouths, only Hemi's, is this correct?

I HATE TO BUST YOU GUYS AND YOUR BUBBLES BUT...YES....THEY WERE STILL BUILDING CARS IN EARLY 1965 WITH 426 MAX-WEDGES FROM THE OVERSTOCK OF ENGINES FROM 1964 ON CHRYSLER'S HAMTRAMCK ASSEMBLY LINE. I WORKED FOR MOPAR IN THE 1970'S AND 1980'S AND I REMEMBER CONVERSATIONS AMONG THE ENGINEERS ABOUT THIS VERY SUBJECT. ASK ANY RAMCHARGER MEMBER OR BETTER YET HERB McCANDLESS! WE HAD A GUY IN OUR CLUB, THE NORTHEAST HEMI OWNERS ASSOCIATION, WHO SHOWED UP AT A CAR SHOW WITH A WHITE 1962 DODGE POLARA 4-DOOR AND POWERED BY A 413 MAX-WEDGE! CHRYSLER PUBLICITY PEOPLE SAID IT DIDN'T EXIST! BULLSHIT! I SAW IT! IMAGINE THEIR FACES WHEN THEY CALLED THE GUY HERE IN PA. AND WANTED TO SEE THE CAR! THEY FLEW IN FROM AUBURN HILLS AND HE SHOWED IT TO THEM AND THEN POLITIELY SAID GOODBYE! THEY PRACTICALLY TORE THE HOUSE DOWN TRYING TO BUY IT. SO BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT DIFFERENT MOTORS ENDING UP IN OTHER YEAR CARS! CURRENT I'M RESTORING A 1965 SATELLITE 2-DOOR WITH A 426 MAX-WEDGE!

There was never a 65 Mopar sold with a Max Wedge eng. They stopped building the Max Wedge eng in early 1964. The only 426 wedge cars in 65 were the 426 street wedge 365 hp cars with one carb and a hydraulic cam. I have never heard what you are saying and I have been around Mopars since the early 70's. Even if what you say is true they still never sold any 65 Max Wedge cars. Ron

There have been quite a few built in the last few years though (LOL).

There are always exceptions to the rules... where cars got options not listed or snuck out the door.... not knowing much about '65 max wedges.... I would guess that there were some engines that made it late out the door to fill customers special orders... the written history is not always 100%correct.

Yes that is true as I see alot of guys put Max Wedge engines in 65 cars. Ron

Of course I believe a 62 4-door could have been built as they sold Max Wedges in 62. What I am saying is they never sold any 65 Mopars with Max Wedge engines. Did some engineers guys like the Ramchargers build one or two ?? That I cant say but no 65 Max Wedge Mopars were built and sold to the public is what I am saying as is everyone else. I am not trying to doubt your word that maybe some guys installed a Max Wedge in 65's but I have never seen or heard of a 65 Max Wedge. Heck I mean they stopped building the Max Wedge eng in 64. I have a pic of me with Darrell Alderman also and Big Daddy as I was around alot of drag racing most of my years also. I also worked at a Dodge dealer for 24 years as a tech and I was even a trained Viper tech. But I love the older Mopars and even though the Viper is cool its not my kind of car. I am not trying to be ignoroant or nasty as I respect you and all Mopar racers and lovers. But I would challenage anyone to prove the factory built a 65 Max Wedge and sold even one to the public because that I know they did not. Ron

No one is saying it doesn't exist. What we'd like to see is proof by a fender tag, broadcast sheet, window sticker, IBM card, etc. The same applies to any '65 Max Wedge.

A lot of cars that weren't 'supposed' to be built do exist but they have proof to back it up.

If you have some sort of proof of a '65 Max Wedge being built and sold to the public, please produce it. That's all we're asking. Anecdotal evidence only goes so far. Regardless of the vocation, time fades memories.

I agree! Show us some kind of proof.

As far as the 62 Max Wedge goes this thread was not about 1962. But as long as you brought it up, yes I actually saw a 62 Dodge 330 4 dr sedan with a Max Wedge for sale many years ago at Hershey. It was complete with its original window sticker and had around 500 miles on it.

There is a difference in over stock and special production runs. These were package cars. Not just engine options. No way. There were all built early in the year. After that ALL 64 package cars were Hemi's. All 65's were Hemi's. Show me the car and the VIN. By the way Tom Coddington and Dave Koffel are personal friends, I could ask them if you'd like.

All max wedges were made in the Lynch Rd. assembly plant so that statement is not correct.
