There are several companies & kits. I'm working on a 727 now for my 440 dart. Several items you'll need to check on as the kits are all different & claim to include everything needed. You'll need to know trans year as there are a couple different kits.

Trans-Go has the best shift kits. Either a TF-2 or a TF-3 if you want full manual option.
-Front & Rear Bands
-Sealing Ring Kit (Teflon Preferred)
-Complete Bushing Kit (You'll need a press)
-Thrust Washer Kit
-Assorted Selective Snap Rings (Local dealer works well to get individual ones as needed)
-727 Service Manual
I'm using a performance kit where you run thin rear clutches in the front drum in order to gain an extra clutch.

there's a great book Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook written by Carl Munroe published HPBooks-1399, I would highly suggest buying & reading, if you plan on building a 727-TF for performance use, great information & guidelines on parts...
The 727 and 904 neither really need a "shift kit". The book Budnicks recommended is a GREAT resource. Basically, by throwing some parts in the garbage, you can make either transmission shift about as hard as they can. That's the God's truth. The torqueflites were designed with cushions to make them shift like grandma would approve of. Simply by bypassing them or leaving them out altogether, you can get the desired result. Of course, there are fancy schmancy things like billet servos and the like that can help too, pretty much you can do it with everything the transmission already offers.....or the lack thereof. Get the book. Read the book. Then you'll understand.
Oh and as for a "kit", just like with engines, I don't recommend a kit for transmissions either. Because you always end up with somebody else's interpretation of a "kit". You get what they want. Usually what they can profit the most on. I recommend Borg Warner clutches and either red or kevlar rigid bands. Other than that, seals and bushings are pretty much the same.
