WIW - Dual quad setup

Wondering if anyone knows if this set up is worth anything. My father bought this from a dealership in Newark, NJ to put on his father's 65 sport fury 383. Got sent to Vietnam before it could be installed and the car was sold while he was over there. Been in garage ever since.

I has the potential to be worth a lot. But to find out you're going to have to get all the numbers/letters you can find on it (but don't clean it all up!!!). Get numbers off the carbs, intake and everywhere you see a numbers/letters, write it down and take pics as well. Depending on what it is exactly, could make it worth quite a bit. Also look for dates!!!

I would love that, it might be costly to ship, but I have been looking for a complete 383 dual carb setup for years.

Thanks for the replies, I listed it in the for sale threads because it wouldn't let me list without picking a category, I'm not sure yet if I want to sell it but will look up all the numbers and post them. I do know that he picked it up before going into the army in Sept. 1966, so the date should reflect that time. It's very heavy and I'm sure it would cost a ton to ship. Will update
 
No disrespect but it's looking pretty rough for never being installed and being in a garage all these years, A.K.A brand new.

He never said it was brand new. He said that his Dad bought it from a dealership. I figured someone came in and complained about their gas mileage so the dealer jerked it off and put a 2 barrel on someone's car to make them happy. Then it sat there til this guy bought it. Besides it doesn't really matter how grungy it looks, the only thing that matters is the condition/year/numbers/casting dates/rarity. Anyone can clean it up....JMO.
I wouldn't even attempt to sell it without doing a bunch of research, I think anyone else would do the same.

That manifold is beyond grungy. Looks like it sat under a tree for at least 10 years. It still has the dead leaves in the nooks.

Let me clarify. This set up was bought brand new sometime between 1965 and sept 1966 and NEVER installed on any engine. It was purchased from a dealership in Newark NJ where the owner was an avid race car driver and owned a race car with the dealership name on the side. It escapes me at the moment but I believe I have some pictures of the car somewhere. It has never sat outside. It has been on a shelf inside the same garage it was placed in in 1966. We still own the house. My guess is that any debris you see have been brought to the manifold by mice as I could see some droppings there as well. Any rust came from moisture in the air.

Thanks MS. I'm following this thread mainly because I have never heard of a dual quad set up for a 383. I'm intrigued.
 
Found some numbers.
Base plate of front carb: 3258S
E5
Base plate of rear carb: 3259S
E5
Lower portion of each carb body: 0-1242

Top of each carb, right side : 5
1383
I could not make out the numbers on manifold between carbs.
Will give it a better look tomorrow.

That's considered a "matched set" with those numbers. I know they are correct for a 1962. Not sure for any other years. The manifold casting numbers will be found between the two carbs.
 
Yes, thank you. I saw that one on ebay. That looks like the manifold but can't be sure without the numbers. I will blow it off with air tomorrow and hopefully figure it out. Have lots of other stuff in my parents garage. Will get pics and list the stuff I'm going to be selling in the forums.

I'm not saying that yours is worth that much, it could be, it could even be worth more. The point is that you'll never know until you have enough members sort it out like you're doing. After the dust settles and (with a little luck) it turns out to be authentic then there are people out there there who would be willing to pay top dollar for the set-up!!

One more thing....if you decide to sell it, be sure and advertise on all the Mopar forums not just B-Body. If the manifold and carbs were used on more than one platform then you have more potential buyer. But since you haven't decided to sell, it doesn't matter quite yet.

Do any of you guys know what years this was a factory option...or is it aftermarket?
Again, I'm very intrigued. Very unique in my simple mind. Extremely cool none the less.

I'm thinking dual quad 383 in my 68 Runner??? Not seen every day.
 
It is NOT an after market manifold! They started the inline dual quad set up in the late 50s They did have a dual quad setup in 57 but it was a poly engine (small block). If I were you and going too do a 2x4 for your RR I'd go with an Edelbrock alum intake! and 600,625 carbs! A little better performance! They are going for $600-700.00 for a used set up!
