WIW - Dual quad setup

Do any of you guys know what years this was a factory option...or is it aftermarket?
Again, I'm very intrigued. Very unique in my simple mind. Extremely cool none the less.

I'm thinking dual quad 383 in my 68 Runner??? Not seen every day.

They first appeared on the 1962 413 300H Chryslers. They were options on the 361 and 383 '62 Dodges and Plymouths. Maybe even early 1963, then they were replaced with different carbs. They were rated at 500 cfm and when flow tested they range as low as 480 and as high as 520 cfm. They are often sought after for someone restoring these cars to original factory parts.

As far as using them on your '68 RR, they would work but for the money they bring and having to rebuild I would put my money into a newer aluminum intake and new 600cfm+ carbs. I'm going new on my 1962 rebuild. Less hassle, more reliable, jmho

Ok, Mopar only lists 3 casting numbers for a 383 dual quad: 1827899, which this is not... There are no breaks in this casting like the one on ebay. The others Mopar lists are 1947162 and 1947163 which are for the 383 and 413 and are the long cross ram left and right sides. I went back out and checked mine. The numbers I could make out were 4877, so I went back to the chart, and the only casting that's close is 2264877. This is listed as produced starting in 1962 and for a 413! Would this also have fit on a 65 383? I am 100% sure that he purchased this for a 65 sport fury 4bbl car.

The plot thickens!!!!!

The 2264877 was used from 1959 to 1962 on the raised block engines, 413 in those years. It would work on 426 and 440 also. It's a wider manifold than a "B block" as in a 383 or 361. If it was sitting around at the dealership, he might have grabbed it for the carbs?

As far as this setup, they aren't a very efficient manifold and carb as today's standards go. They were needed back in the day to pull those land yachts down the road and add a couple of hps. to the lighter models. But they do look cool!
Btw, the original air cleaners are bringing more than that whole setup!

Are we having fun yet?

This is definitely the manifold... No doubt. The numbers are on a plate that's screwed in like this one. Only thing I can think of is that someone mistook this manifold for the 1827899 because they are so similar. The dealership was owned by the parents of my dad's buddy. Heard the story so many times about how he never got a chance to mount them because of the war... Not because they wouldn't fit! Sad, my dad passed away last July at 67 years old from cancer. I now wish I'd have pulled this thing off the shelf in the garage and researched it while he was still here.
We did build a nice 440 sixpack and dropped it in a 71 Scamp in that very garage, lots of good memories.

Yes definitely fun, and I have to look, because I remember seeing at least one oval air cleaner somewhere in there. Maybe I'll get lucky and find both!

Very interesting indeed.

(FWIW on a 2X4, 383, a pair of 500's would be better than a pair of 600's. Just sayin.... )

My brother's 62 sport Fury 361 had dealer installed 2-4's. With 3.23 gears had to be movin' at least 60 mph before kickin' in the all 8 barrels. Thank you for the memories....!

6t4 I don't see a 2264877 on your list.

They were a dealer install. When you ordered this option the manufacturer placed the manifold and carbs in the trunk, then the dealership installed them.

they used the dual 4bbls on the Chrysler Marine on a 383 too 1971 IIRC

there was a couple different 2 4bbl 383 combos, crossram/long-ram & inline
on the original 361 B {early 350 B?} & early 383 RB high block & later on the B- Low Deck Block
from {1956?-58?}1959-1961 & even 1971 Marine, a few different applications & aftermarket too

mine is the 1827899 intake on my 66 383...can't dump all 8 bbls in off the line..have to be going a bit for that....plus I do not have progressive linkage on the carbs...mine are linked together at all times

6t4 I don't see a 2264877 on your list.

Just cut and pasted Carb. shop info.

I have this exact setup (383 intake) hanging on my wall. The date code on your carbs say May 1965 so they are over the counter performance items. That date also fits right into when that was bought new. Take a look at the Dick Landy article in new Hemmings Muscle Machines mag. The article talks about the performance clinic in 1968 and you will see a picture of a sandwich board with factory performance parts attached and that includes this intake and carb setup.

The corrosion damage is pretty bad and likely the jets will have to be drilled out and soft plugs removed for proper cleaning. Manifold can get by with a bead blast. As far as value goes it all depends on how much effort/expense to rebuild the carbs. I have seen these "marine" (heavily corroded) setups at swap meets with an asking price in the $1000.00 range but the guy is loading it back up at the end of the day.

A383W, I'm finding this Thread very interesting, I have the same intake on with two 500 cfm Carter AFB's, linked together like yours are and a 727 trans. turning 3:91 gears in a 8 3/4" rear, L60-15 tires. Both primaries work at the same time and then the secondary's kick in at the appropriate time, from a stand still or a running start I've had no trouble.
Well the back of the driver's seat does lean back more then I think it should.
