Any of you guys ever spoken to an import lover? I work for an engine (factory replacement parts not H.P) parts supply warehouse and we get calls everyday with these import tuner guys putting together frankenstein motors ( nothing wrong with that we do it all the time) with parts from 6 different engines and for some weird reason they all seem to expect you to know all the stupid combinations there are for there fart machine engines,I would understand if our company was advertised as a high performance supplier, were not even remotely close,,,,sorry just venting and wondering if any of you guys have dealt with them.

Like any hobby, or special interest group, you get good & bad. Some of the kids are good, they just want to "soup" up their ride, like we all did (and still do ! ). Some are morons, you just ignore them. You get that in any aspect of life. As far as their choice of iron, If that's what floats their boat, so be it. Just because I despise foreign cars, I don't care what anybody else thinks of my opinion of them, not should they care. Live and let live.

I am one... But I'm also one of you guys. I can't stand a lot of the people in the import scene though, always talking **** to eachother, pre-adolescent pricks with their 160 horsepower honda, driving around trying to race everyone and their grandma's, living life like they are in the fast & furious series. I've met great people and shitty people on both sides, so I don't have a problem with the groups, just certain people in them. I love my '65 but I would trade it in a second for a Skyline, Supra or NSX.

Alright, so I'm going to go a different direction here...

I am not fond of the imports/tuners - I jokingly call them rice burners. They are not my cup of tea. Having said that, these guys/kids are just like many of us were - we bought what was available used and cheap, and then did the best we could to improve their performance. We screwed up a lot of stuff too with our stupid combinations (at least I did, and still do!).

In my mind, they are at least "car guys". There are enough tree huggers and other forces that are trying to kill the car hobby. I say all of us car guys (and gals) need to stick together and support the car hobby. Yeah, I may not dream about having a souped up Civic, but they may not dream about having my land barge (comparatively) Road Runner. We should all be able to give each other some respect...

..except maybe at a street light...:icon_fU:

Obviously the Skyline/NSX is a higher $$$... but if you want a Supra, I'll get you one for your 65 depending on its condition.

I almost bought an NSX for $6500...before the value skyrocketed :(

My friend just sold a fairly nice widebody supra for $2600.

I actually had a guy in a WRX want to mess with me in my 63 today. I was cruising by at 55 mph minding my own bussiness and he was also just cruising along and then he has to lay into it and come screaming up by me. So I thought......well maybe a little but it was to much traffic. So I saw an opening and as I was about 55 mph I just left it in high gear and punched it real fast to scream up along side him and then let off. Just before I hit the gas he took off and I punched it real quick as I was cruising about 3 or 4 car lenths behind him. He took off from a 60 mph roll and I hit it after he started to pull away and then I pulled him real quick about 2 to 3 car lenths as I came up close to his rear bumber and had to lift as it was to many cars. I think I went from 60 mph to maybe 75 or 80 at the most real quick. I pulled right up on him and lifted as I had to but he had a clear lane and kept going. I was just having a little fun as I have no idea how fast that turbo WRX is from a roll. I pulled him and most likely could have beat him up to about 130 but with my gearing thats about it for me or maybe 135 at best with 4.30's. But I really dont know how fast they are from a 60 mph roll. I believe they run low 13's stock but really dont know. Was just clowning as no way would I have raced him any faster then that on the street as it is just to stupid. But he seemed to be cool about it and did not really do anything to crazy. Ron

I agree 100 percent, my son who is 20 has a Mustang, his friends have EVO's, one totally rebuilt it for E85. I took a ride in it and it screams. These are decent guys and love my Mopar and have respect for what it is. We are all "car guys & gals", they have no interest in all this hybrid green crap. It's all a bunch of propaganda. If we all don't stick together, we will all be "driving" roller skates.

I've experienced both, I help a friend build an Eclipse with nitrous who was just a guy making his car go fast "kinda". Then there's the other guy, we were talking cars when he asked me what I had, I replied "69 Charger" he gave a smug look and began to inform me that muscle cars were overrated and that the imports made just as much hp in a smaller car. I tried to educate him explaining "there's no replacement for displacement" and that if I matched him dollar for dollar on a build he would always come out behind not to mention all of the mods he would have to do just to make the car handle the abuse. There was no convincing him, I just really hope we cross paths when the Chargers done "I'll educate him for sure". Agreed thou, we need to support all car guys just not the idiots that like to talk smack.

Culture. Torque. Nothing beats the fear felt in a big block at WOT. Out of the basement. Better than high-revving buzz sounds.

I'd much rather have my V8's than have a 4banger that sounds like a chain saw. The only 4 cylinder I ever owned had 2 wheels.

The foolishness of youth.
The cars are like mesqitoes.
Annoying both in sound and effect.
Hold up a sign, like Wile E.
“Meet me at the drag strip if you want to race”.

Import lovers make up about sixty percent of the "car experts" at my school, most have no idea of how an engine even operates, they see "tutorials" on tv (for them fast in the furious is the equivalent of years of research) of how to add NOS to a car. After that they consider themselves the foremost experts at everything, in my school auto shop program I can't tell you guys the amount of times I've seen an engine in a mid nineties Toyota or Honda, or even "now get ready for this" a few KIA, that has a blown engine or f*cked up trans, because someone decided to make a "simple" mod to their car to make it sound more like a bumble bee. Now I don't work on any of these cars, and have no Idea of how they work, but I don't go around like I know eveything like the "import lovers" I know

Like others have said, there's the good and the bad as with any group of people. I'm 21 so all of my friends my age are into imports and we get along fine, then there are the ricer morons (rice: Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements) that just slap wings and fartcans on stock, slow cars. And all my import owner friends laugh at them.

My friend has a non-STI turbo'd wrx and tried to race me from a rolling start last summer (I was in my 67 Chevelle, 454/700r4) he was behind me and got a running start, turbo spools up and he goes to scream past me and right as he comes even with me ( still cruising in 3rd), I drop 2nd and punch it. Left him like he was standing still along with a Chrysler 300 that tried to join in I guess lol similar stories with my other buddies' cars.

Some of them are actually quick though, never got to race it before he crashed it, but my friend had a turbo'd Toyota mr2 I helped him replace the turbo on, went for a ride and that thing pulled as hard as another friend's 440 6 pack '68 Roadrunner. I wouldn't mind owning a supra, nsx, or r32 gt-r at some point but nothing will come close to how much I love driving a big block muscle car

Me and my import driving friends appreciate all kinds of cars, respect each others' taste in them and get along great. It's just the the actual "ricers" that give real car guy import owners a bad name. (there are plenty of them around)

I have an evo and a charger, evo making 375hp on 91 pump and 426 on E85 but pulls like a freight train. I'm hoping to make the charger just as fast if not faster, in a straight line at least, it will never stand a chance against the awd turbo in a canyon rip.

That's a damn awesome combo :icon_thumleft: I was looking at evo's for a while, personally like them better than STI's

I absolutely hate Honda Civics & most the people that own them {it's a long story}, especially with all the circus paint schemes & tuner crap or big wings on them, the F&F type Rice Rocket posers with boom boom stereo's too...LOL... Sorry...but that's my problem... I will support the car/race hobby/sport & it's youth, if they aren't total dweebs or act like total a--holes, that's what this generation has for an affordable car to build... I have a few friends into them, I like allot of them too, just not the posers or Civic's or Camary's, I've never really been a big fan of FWD anything, especially Foreign stuff, for that fact/matter, but I do usually tolerate them, it's just what they do now, just not my cup of tea... my $0.02 cents.... Damn I'm getting old & crotchety...
