Got a quote today for my Grandfathers '87 Cutlass Supreme that I was planning on daily driving once it came out of storage... $575 a month! It is absolute bullshit. Went to plan b and got a quote for a reg. cab shortbox 4 cyl 2wd Ford Ranger and it was $265 a month, I've been looking at them for a while because gas mileage is good and they are cheap to maintain. I don't understand how they can justify charging $575 a month for a 305 powered car that weighs 4000#... I can get insurance for a right hand drive r32 skyline gtr for cheaper than that.

Wow, you get the New Jersey rates in Canada?

I used a broker, but the Ranger was under Pembroke (I think that's how you spell it) and the Cutlass was under Royal Bank. Finding insurance on the cutlass is hard because most companies will only insure a classic if you are over 25.

It's stupid because I have friends in B.C., Quebec, and Nova Scotia. All their rates are pretty well half of what we have in Ontario. My friend is B.C. owns two r33 Skylines, a 180sx, a silvia, and a toyota chaser and he pays under $600 a month for all five right hand drive vehicles.

I ran into the same thing down here in Florida. My buddy has full coverage on an '08 Suburban and it is cheaper than minimum coverage on my '89 Chevy van. We both have clean driving records and live in the same zip code. I asked my insurance company why. They said there is a basic rate for vehicles in each class. Then discounts are figured in for anti lock brakes, alarm systems, air bags, etc. If you have an older vehicle, it does not have these features. This means you pay the full amount for a vehicle in that class. IMO, it is a way to weed out the older vehicles. Your '87 Olds is getting charged the full rate for a vehicle in its' class.

I'm 20 and I'm with Johnson's now, my insurance on my 07 GMC sierra 1500 4x4 is around $340 a month but it's full coverage. I'm switching to TD insurance, I got a quote from them for my truck and the charger is only about $400 a month for both. That's full coverage on both and an appraisal with the charger.

Somehow with insurance young folks are considered guilty until they prove their innocence for many years. Isn't that backwards from the way the law is supposed to work?

Yes, we all need insurance, but the fine print, excluded items, hidden fees, etc. make it pretty much bullsh**.

Insurance company's are the richest company's in the world. Don't insure any thing for more than the law makes you. Take the difference and put it away. You will be money ahead. For the most part. If you can't live with, or understand "for the most part" pay the piper. And the piper will pay the politicians. And the politicians will do as they are told. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL.

I used them once, pretty good except they fleeced me.

Try here instead.....

I have never heard of insurance quotes this high.

I pay 60 a month for full coverage on my 05 4x4, high rollover risk, luxury suv, with a V8 QX56
I pay 65 a month for liability on my wife's car that is an 03 station wagon. WTF?

I can't do Haggerty. You have to be 25 years of age, I still have 5 long years to go. I'm just going to settle for the Ranger. Going to look at one today.
