I did and tried everything I had found online. Sensors, flushing, band adjustments, computers. Had some junk yard ones. Then bit the bullet and got a refurbished one flashed with my VIN. My computer issue was a separate thing in itself.
I ended up taking it to a shop. Full rebuild. The problem...
I think I adjusted the bands correctly. Both tightened to 72 inch pounds. One is backed off 2 turns. Other is backed off 2 3/4.
I did not try to move the bands too much but moved the metal bars and pulled the band out a little too see material on the bands. There is material there and the drum...
It does move when throttle is pressed. I cannot say it is 100% correct as I'm going by YouTube videos. I tried to move it to different positions and didn't notice much of a change.
Also, I can't imagine it would come out of adjustment out of nowhere.
The stuff clogging the screens of the thing with the wire harness (can't remember what it's called) looked like stuff from a heater core or radiator when you clean them. Except it was smaller pieces. The screens on the solenoid was much smaller, almost like fiber. But larger than the fuzzy stuff...

TL/DR
Truck is constantly going back to 1st gear when applying throttle.
This is gonna be long, but here is the background:
Bought the truck a few years ago. Transmission had been out of the truck at some point, previous owner knew nothing about it as he'd only had...
I'd be interested. There's never too many ideas for dealing with this issue. And a thread detailing everything done to resolve the issue would be even better.
Yep. Very common. The bolts holes for the exhaust go into the coolant passages.
Drain the coolant enough so it's not leaking. Get the coolant cleaned up in the threads. When reinstalling header bolts, use Teflon tape or something to make them water tight.
Are you checking voltage at idle? Most alternators do not charge well at idle (under 1200 RPM). When you go to have an alternator in your car tested at places like autozone, they usually tell you to keep RPMs at about 2k.
When I'm looking at voltage on a running car, I always keep the RPMs...
What I do when the car has sat for more than a couple days is this:
1. Crank the engine for a few seconds (3-4)
2. Wait a couple seconds
3. Crank again few seconds
4. Wait a couple seconds
5. Press the gas peddle all the way down then release
6. Crank again
7. If nothing, repeat steps 4 and 5...
I was having severe tuning issues, not just idle. My idle was all over the place. Sometimes would be high, then low. It was also creating adjustment issues. The throttle shaft hole was wollered out to where sometimes the shaft would sit just right to seal up.
It wasn't me that found it. I took...
If there is leaking around the throttle shaft, that needs fixed. Mine was misshapen causing a vacuum leak that took forever to figure out. I bought a kit off ebay. It comes with the reamer and new bushings. There's several videos on YouTube about how to do it with a regular drill. No need for a...
