I have been using Brad Penn 10w30 in my 440 engine but it is always hard to find. What are you guys using that is equally as good yet easier to find in parts stores? Thanks

I was ordering mine through Summit. This last order, instead of coming from the Ohio warehouse it was shipped from the Georgia warehouse. Also their Wix oilfilter is back ordered. I'll be looking also.

Also, Brad Penn's name was sold...

Check out all of the "what oil do you use" on here, you'll see a pattern!

The Rotella doesn't have nearly as much ZDDP as it once did if it does at all anymore...

Use valvoline vr1 10w30 oil. It has plenty of the necessary chemicals and any of the parts stores can get it, minus the hazmat charges

Another Valvoline VR1 user here, conventional. It can be found on Amazon, use Prime = free shipping.

I use walmart supertech and would add Lucas engine break in oil additive when I ran a solid cam. I went solid roller now so only use the oil now.

It still has more than the current SN rated oils and I add a bottle of ZDDP Plus.

There was a discussion here not long ago (but I can't find the thread) in which someone posted Shell Rotella's current zinc levels, and if I remember correctly, they are still at 1200 PPM.

I'm sure I'm the "odd man out" here, but I just run the cheapest conventional SAE30W or SAE40W I can find and change it like I change my underwear (every 500 miles or so). fyi- I'm running loose bearing at .003" rod/mains. Zinc (ZDDP) is better to reduce wear (additive or "high mileage" oil). Synthetic lasts longer. Running something like 10W-30 weight probably oils the top end better on cold start ups. I've had good luck with the cheap stuff.

My local O'Rielly had VR1, but it was very expensive (don't recall the exact price, but it was much, much more than full synthetic). The guy I bought the Road Runner from used 'any brand high mileage 10w30 and a bottle of ZDDP'. So, I went with Valvoline MAX Life 10w30 and a bottle of Lucas Zinc plus (and a WIX filter). My car will get maybe 400, or 500 miles on it this year, so I'll change oil every year.

I like PurpleBeeper's analysis; we are lucky to have a chemist on this forum.
