I spent most of my career working for an OE and aftermarket auto parts supplier. China is capable of making good stuff. They make iPhones, iPads and many computers. If given a set of specifications, and being measured against those specs, they can produce quality. Some companies, like NAPA, provide specifications to their suppliers and they require suppliers to meet or exceed OE specs. NAPA has the capability of inspecting and auditing the quality of parts they receive. Some suppliers, like Advance and Autozone buy on price and price alone. They hand a supplier a brake rotor and tell him to give them one that looks like this. And make it cheap.
I have no doubt that the Chinese are equal to us —- or possibly even better than us in the world of electronics , computer chips , etc. , etc.
When I was in my upper level Math classes at the Ivy League’s University of Pennsylvania, there would be like eleven ( 11 ) people in my class —- My friend and classmate Dave and me and 9 oriental scholars…..
The Oriental culture values education , and they truthfully are extremely intelligent…..
However , you don’t see any 130 story skyscrapers in Hanoi , etc., etc., as we have here in New York , Chicago , and elsewhere here in the United States….
Our steel is far superior to any other country in the world…
Our bridges ( when not hit by planes ) are far superior to those elsewhere in the world , etc. , etc……
When you lift anything that requires steel ( like a brake drum or a brake rotor , even ) and put a U.S.A. in one hand and a Chineseum in the other , you can FEEL the weight difference , and can clearly detect Quality over a
“ spit out “ product to maximize profit , and , yes , is definitively CHEAPER —- in Quality….
That being said , I do eat Shrimp Egg Rolls with Duck Sauce, and I think that they are better Made in China !!!

That's why I usually buy from Napa. I've given up on trying to find good parts by brand anymore. Moog was definitely crap last time I did suspension work. I can tell you that even replacement parts I bought directly from BMW were Chinese junk.
I disagree with many of the comments here, respectfully. Federal mogul makes many parts here in the USA. They have a plant in Boaz Alabama. next to my town of Albertville. They were even featured by Mike Roe once.
I like moog parts and have had no issues with them. I’m just ordered several new moog parts for steering/suspension on my 69 Bee.

I will look at them tomorrow. Moog parts are made in 16 different countries, including usa. I will look at the boxes when I go back to my shop, probably tomorrow.
Moog tie rod ends. Made in USA. Moog tie rod sleeve, made in Taiwan. All the bushings etc I have purchased are made in USA.
I have some Delphi parts made in Taiwan. None of the new suspension parts that I purchased so far have come from China.
But again, Moog is made in 16 different. Companies and China is one of those. A lot of these parts are also made in my neighboring town at the Ferrell Mogul plant in Boaz AL.
