My 66 Hemi needs a .140 thick gasket, I can do two neoprene coated steel gaskets .031 and a .083 piece of 6061 aluminum spacer to make the right thickness. What are y’all feelings about the aluminum piece? Back in 1980 I wrenched on a friends Ford Shotgun engine, 588 cu in. Roush built. Crank was so big (4-3/4”) it had a 1/4” thick aluminum spacer to get deck high enough, never seemed to be a problem with burning out or leaking, my reason for using the 6061 piece.
What are y’all thoughts? Thanks
PS already cut and fit them.

Mopar made 1/16" shim gaskets for the 440's out of Stainless steel. I'm not sure about stacking that much
to achieve what? Why does the engine need 0.140? I'm at a loss.

Why don't you just have Cometic make you a 0.141" MLS gasket??

If you already made the aluminum shims I guess they will work. Mopar made a .060" spacer kit for that, P4120176. Those spacers and a .040" head gasket on each side would work.

$258 each, four .031 gaskets are $35 each, aluminum $0
Block is cut .080, head cut .040 or .060. I could leave it where it’s at but if you know a Hemi and it’s intake fitting it’ll be a lot of cutting and bolt hole reaming. Right now set up at the .140 intake skids right down on studs plus the ports match up real good. All this has been thought out for over a year, just concerned about the spacer, exactly what Cometic makes (3 layers, I thick piece of SS in center) all will be coated with Hylamar before install and torqued about 3-4 times.

could always call/email cometic, they could probably make something up and would know exactly what to do..

Disasembling a Hemi with a bad head gasket seal? Priceless. In the words of Clint Eastwood. Do you fell lucky? It might work. I've never paid over a $100 a piece for Cometics. Did you call them direct?

There’s a big jump from .090 to the .120 and .140. Checked with Jegs and Summit, both about the same. I’ll call cosmetic today to see what they say.

Didn't the Shotgun have O-rings instead of head gaskets?

Sorry Guys, Please enlighten me why you need 0.140 head gasket spacing? I have a pair of used Mopar
0.060 Stainless shims you can have if you want them? I cut the domes down on my pistons to get my
C/R down so I didn't have to buy new ones.

I’d prefer SS, I’ll take them.
My block has been decked to 10.64 by someone before me. Stock deck is 10.725. My heads have been cut approx .040 but I can use the .060 shim with two .031 gaskets to get .122 which is in the ball park.
