Ok, Not sure if I should be calling it the switch or the relay, but it is the aluminum box under the dash along side the column that contains the rod(s). See picture 1. My issue is the little screw that is supposed to let you adjust the relay module I guess? Mine either has the wrong screw, although I have tried several different screws, does not tighten up. It must be stripped. So, I'm just wondering if anyone has just tried to take a big hose clap and try to tighten the crap out of it for a completely jerry rigged solution? LOL! Let me know what you think. Thanks Kraig

That is the ignition switch. You should remove or lower the column and repair the mounting holes. That switch has to be mounted solid or else it will not work right. There is more than one screw that holds it down. Fix it right.

Thanks pnora! I had no idea there is more than one screw to hold it in place. I'll take your advice and drop the column to have a better look.

Just an FYI, the slots are so that the switch can be adjusted to the rod extension when the key it turned. So if the starter is not engaging when the key is turned the switch can be slid forward to make contact. If the switch is too far forward you will likely break it due to slamming the rod in it.

Also, that switch is a GM product as is the column. Think 72 Caprice with tilt column.

70chall440, I no some one had mentioned that to me before as it is a tilt column. I’lol crawl under there again to see if I can find the other mount points.

I really appreciate all the help so far on this car. I did have a chance to drop the column and now I can see the other mount location for the switch. Second pic is the cruise control leaving the steering column, never have found the other end. But, with the column out I will be able to have a better look.
