WANTED: 1 Holley carb list # 4734 for 1971 383 w/ manual transmission. Needing rebuild is OK but it must be complete.

What do you have?

PM me here.

Thanks!

I believe 4734 is an AVS for 70 383 California emissions

Then what is the right carb for a 71 383 that's not California emissions for my RR?

All carbs in 71 were California emissions, I believe it was called cleaner air system. According to the service manual it should be a 6191 holley or 6193 holley with air grabber. I know many of the guys doing OE restos on 383 stick cars are looking for a 4667 holley due to how their build sheet is marked. General concensus is that this carb was never made. I believe someone found one years back and it was thought to be an engineering prototype.

Ironically I put a 4734 avs on my 71 383 auto about 4-5 years back and love how it runs. After 25 years of dealing with the holleys I was kicking myself for no doing it sooner. The bodies of the 4160 holleys of this era are prine to warping. Last I heard, Scott Smith would not warrant any restos on 4160 holleys due to this.

My car isn't original and has an air grabber. Currently has an Edelbrock on it and I want to switch back to a Holley. What would be a good new replacement?

If you want a holley, I would research if there are newer 4160 style holleys that do not suffer the casting issues.

I would personally go with an AVS with the ecs connection like a 4734 or 6125. The intake pattern for the holley and avs are the same. There are fuel lines available and a different choke heater is required. If using the domed style choke, make sure your flange gasket is thick enough before tightening down. The 6125 was offered on the 71 383 in c-bodies. C-bodies had the same compression as b and e's in 71, not 100% sure on the cam. I like how the 4734 runs on my stock 71 383. The 6125 has a little different jetting.
