To be clear, just because it was on the truck this way does not mean that it was not modified by a dealer before arriving at the point of sale. I'm not going to say that I'm doubting his word on what he saw on the truck, just that his conclusion that this means everything was 100% factory...
I wouldn't say it was common, but dealers did gussy-up cars to add profit and move inventory. Cars were also moved and traded between dealers. That doesn't make the added items "factory" (in the most accepted definition of the term).
Unless he has some solid documentation to prove this stuff is...
":.....this may be the rarest 'Runner built for 1968!"
Soooooo tired of these type of statements, but at least I still get a laugh at them. If you own any classic Mopar, 99.9% percent chance it is tied with all the rest of them as "the rarest" and is a 1 of 1.
This doesn't even make any sense. How do get to 512 with a cast crank?
At any rate, .... bad deal. It's not only not as advertised, it's junk. Was it intentional, or did the guy really not know what he had - really does not matter. I would play it like he was also unaware and try to amicably...
Good point. The car will be registered elsewhere where they have inspections, etc. That might be a hurdle of another kind. It's in great shape and should pass any mechanical inspection, but not sure about all the modifications. I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there.
Damn. I never thought of this. I've already have a mini starter in it. Gonna have to look under the car and and look this over for my own cars too! Thanks for the tip.
In the not-so far future I am going to be giving one of my cars to the kid of a prior owner. It has a 440/727 with Eddy Performer cam and intake, mildly worked 906's, Holley 750 vacuum secondary, hooker headers, and a 150 plate nitrous system. It's not a race car as it is heavy with 3.23. gears...
Probably not since the Charger wheelbase and track width are different, but of course that wouldn't be a hurdle for scrappy roundy-round guys... so who knows.
I'm building a deck ramp for geezer access to my house. The geezer I'm building it for will be me some day. I don't ever want to move again, and I figure I should get it done while I can.
The car parts I could buy with the lumber bill! :(
@ repair 1/3 the cost of a new one, I would junk it unless they can guarantee 100% it will be fixed for no more $$. It's already 2 years old and the warranty expired. How will you feel when it dies 6 months after its repaired and then you have to buy a new one? A new TV will have a warranty...
With the large Challenger tires and wheels on hand you have the advantage of using those for fit up, and then measuring clearances to know how much bigger, wider, offset, etc. you can go.
Al this is why I think insurance companies will eventually start giving discounts if you run cameras, and eventually not offer insurance to you at all unless you do. There's no stopping these people from doing this. Aint it great?!
Two people in my family had this happen (brake-checked, minor bump with no damage, dramatic faked injuries). On the second one, the EMT's were actually laughing at the guy as I guess he put on quite a show. Both "no-habla" victims, of course. One of the best things about insurance is that it...
You didn't mention the engine build, so assuming it is a period correct mostly stock engine and not a later motorhome transplant....
then: It's all there minus the AC, mechanical work done, reasonable rust, etc. .... all-in-all a pretty attractive project if this is the type of car someone...
That really sucks. The climate here in W WA is generally pretty favorable to tire life.
Given quality in anything these days, I wouldn't be surprised if some new rubber formula has been baked up to force obsolescence in 5 years. That's what the tire companies all want. 5 year replacement will...
I think the reality is that there are too many vehicles to keep ready in drivable condition (fuel, coolant, battery) without causing deterioration. The museum personnel said they were not hiring volunteer drivers to exercise the equipment (yea, I asked). Also, they have a whole nuther building...
