Hi.
I could'nt get my engine to start. I'm thinking it's got to do with the dist. advance timing..
Some of you has helped me along the building of my 383, but for those of you who don't know here's some info.
383 with .030 overbore
compression ratio:10,5:1
closed chamber iron heads.
comp cams...
Hi. I thought I would start my rebulit engine today, but I seem to bump into trouble in every little detail.
It's a 383 (stock oil pump, drive gear and dist. wich all was in the engine before the rebulid, new cam)
Now I'm stuck with the distributor/oilpump drive gear. I can't get it to seat...
The engine shop considered my deck as good to go, and my heads are milled. I'm going to use the 0.020 steel shim gasket. Would you use copper spray or not? I've heard arguments both ways..
Hi again.
Here's a thread for those who wants to give a rookie some input on a choice between two cams.
(some of you knows about my build from earlier, but here's what I've got)
383, stock rods, 1.900 flat top pistons, 915 heads (3-angle cut 2.14/1.81) unported, Edelbrock dp4b intake, holley...
Hi.
Just got a set of heads and I noticed that I don't know what the big letter (casted in the same slot as the number on the bottom side of the head) means. On this set I got the letter L on both heads, and on my old 906 heads I have one R and one M.
The rocker arms on the new heads has...
Hi again folks.
I'm now about to choose cam for my build.
I've been looking at the comp Xtreme energy 268H (268/280) (224/230 @0.050)
http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=707&sb=2
But now I'm offered a used High energy 268 single pattern cam (218/218 @0.050)...
I just measured the piston-to-deck-clearance and got .080 on my 383 block. Stock rods and SP ( 366AP30) flat top pistons. I'm using 906 heads (measured 88cc) and the Felpro head gasket ( 8519PT-1 ) wich after some googling is said to be .040 compressed.
Block is .030 bore.
All these parameters...
I have the heads, crank, and cam out of the block, so I thougt, instead of put them back to measure, I'd ask here.
I'm scouting for a new camshaft and wanna know how much lift I could have before the valves hit the pistons.
383, stock crank, 906 heads w. stock rocker arms (believe they give a...
Is this cam a good choice for a 383 with stock pistons, rods, 906 heads w. stock rockers and valves. HP-valve-springs though (double spring)...
I'm arfraid there's too much lift so the valves will hit the pistons.. What is the "lift ratio" with stock rockers in 906 heads?

What to do...?
Having my forged crank removed and inspected I reallise I'll have to let the shop work on the bearing journals at a cost I don't know...
A guy is selling a 400 cast crank in good condition for a good price (about 100 dollars)
So... First of all, does the 400 crank fit the 383...
I'm new at this and I don't want to ruin enything...
I gave the little crank key som not-so-gentle pounds but it won't move... Am I doing it wrong?
I googled a pic of mopars BB crank keys and saw that they are'nt all rounded, but flat on the edges. Does this require another method of removal?
I guess this is'nt the first time someone asks about this. But I really would like to know what cam this is. I just removed the cam driving and on the end of shaft it's written:
270H10
IA5684
and there's one yellow and one blue dot on it.
I figure it's a Comp 270H-seies cam. But I cant find...
I'm restoring my 383 and the old dual plane cast iron intake (2806301), wich I'm intending to re-use, have smaller ports than the 906 heads.
Is it worth porting the intake for better flow?
