The spline count and shaft size is probably different on the Borgeson unit. I haven't bothered to measure and check.
Yeah, you could collapse the column shaft and just use the U-joint coupler but then you lose the plunge capability of the factory coupler.
Another thing though is that the Borgeson does have a small center slop.
Wiggling the steering wheel left/right and nothing happens at the wheels.
The new Firm Feel was dead on.....then again after some wear in, it got the huge slop of the original.
I guess rack and pinion is the way to go to...
No offense meant but it surprises me when I hear of another person that hasn’t heard…
Bergman Auto Craft sells a swap kit that includes a hybrid type coupler that allows you to install a Borgeson box with no cutting.
Bergman Auto Craft is a sponsor of this site too.
Look him up.
I did the swap with Borgeson box and Bergman coupler kit. It's a completely different car to drive now. I recommend getting the kit and the cooler. The few bucks extra will save you major headaches. I used kerndog's thread on this topic as reference.
I have replaced the steering gear box(borgeson) power steering pump along with installing new upper and lower QA-1 control arms. Also new shocks. Purchased a E440 HP to replace the 383. Whew! 1969 Roadrunner.
...browsing through threads and reading up on the Lares and Bergman boxes and have a couple of questions.
Has anyone installed a Bergman (Borgeson) box on a stock 66 Hemi with TRW pump and stock hoses? In other words do the hose connections clear the stock manifolds or require an adaptor...

...you combine multiple aftermarket parts nothing fits. That is exactly what your problem is. Between the Dougs headers, the QA K frame and the Borgeson box you've created a unique situation that only you can resolve. Dougs will tell you that their parts fit stock chassis, QA will tell you that...
...a power steering car, and the OEM box was leaking badly. I wanted a more modern feel for the steering, so I replaced the leaking box with a Borgeson unit. Although I love the feel of the Borgeson, I have an issue that is stumping me. At very low speeds (15mph and lower), when you turn the...
Folks,
I just finished installing my new Borgeson power steering box + coupler. I was running a Firm Feel stage II box, which I removed due to a leaking seal.
Bottom line - I like the Borgeson unit better. A bit less assist at low speeds, but more precise at speed. There is no on-center...
Hello all,
Just a month or so ago I installed a Borgeson power steering box in my '68 B-body. I retained the existing Saginaw power steering pump. The other day the weather allowed me to take it out on an extended cruise up and down a local mountain highway. The steering feel was more...
