I have the Borgeson steering box kit from Bergman’s and I installed the pulley on the pump but the shaft has some play when pulling and pushing. Wondering if that is normal or if it needs to be pushed on further to remove the play?
Hello all,
Just a month or so ago I installed a Borgeson power steering box in my '68 B-body. I retained the existing Saginaw power steering pump. The other day the weather allowed me to take it out on an extended cruise up and down a local mountain highway. The steering feel was more...
I use a small block push rod to drive out the roll pin. You can weld 2 together for reach.
Consider some Borgeson steering parts to update Cup and shoe Steering Adaptor
...having some vibration and feedback during steering. Not bad, but it's something I haven't experienced on my other ps b bodies. I have the borgeson gear box, ps pump and hoses setup. All of that installed fine. I'm also using moog 11/16" tie rods with pst solid adjusters and pst fast ratio...
Test fitting the Borgeson and coupler shows why the Borgeson coupler is longer.
When attached all the way to the box the Borgeson sits at the exact same distance from the firewall.
I had planned to cut it to make my locking clamp fit but that is a no go now.
Guess I have to follow Kern and make...
I've been looking at the Borgeson steering box. My OE steering box had been rebuilt around 2005 and re-installed when the car was restored in 2009. If I remember correctly, it was rebuilt by Firm Feel with one step up in firmness from stock. A little over 3000 miles later and the steering is...
...I thought that Peter also ported the passages of the steering unit but I'm not sure on that.
Here is my thread on this swap:

I've done two of these swaps, both kits came from Bergman Auto Craft. ( BAC )

Here is the thread I started on my Borgeson installation. I have a habit of being long winded when describing the process but along with that often comes some useful info.
Swapping a Borgeson steering box in a 1970 Charger
@Kern Dog - he should chime in on this. He recently pulled my column shift to help me do a Borgeson swap and upon reinstall it's experiencing the same symptoms. He says there's adjustment in the mounting plate and that it takes trial and error.
Out checking linkage slop.
The linkage is solid.
I grabbed the pitman arm while wiggling the steering wheel and yes, the slop is in the Borgeson box.
The slop is about ............8mm
...yes, thank you, I will find my way out. :blah:
While checking under the car I noticed quite a bit of...
I'm dealing with this now. Ordered the clamp from Detroit Muscle Monday, found out last night my Bergman coupler is too long. Made a "prototype" for myself from a coat hanger now just need to find a heavier guage wire/metal to make a permanent one. Love the steering upgrade though thus far.
Thank you so much for the information. I will definitely have him look into this. We have put quite a bit of money into the car so don't want to skimp on something like this. When we I start the car the steering wheel slowly begins to move on its own, kind of creepy! The kids and grandkids...
